     @ElDeadKennedy @bot @waifu if you dont know already, its really not. itd probably take 10+ hours of just learning the basics, plus youd have to learn about the current market and research all the parts youre going to buy. youtube guides and pcpartpicker are great resources but beginners will still struggle, and wont be very happy when a little thing goes wrong

     Plus it’s effort, don’t listen to these nerds saying you should build one. Imagine if car guys told you to build a car when you asked, everyone would ignore them.
     
     A steam deck is the easiest way to start playing PC games. You don’t have to mess around with software, keyboard/ mouse or controller, in game settings etc

     Except there’s software, cable management, io header pins in the way. You could slap parts together but if you’re not going to do it properly then don’t bother, a prebuilt pc or steam deck is the best option.

     If it is the new dead space remake you might want to build a PC. Which most sites can provide you the parts you need, and some will assemble it for you too.

     There's still some compatibility issues here and there (mostly with anticheat), but for the most part Linux Gaming is viable now. It just takes a little extra setup to get it running and you can also check compatibility levels on the proton db website

     I was never going to build it myself, but I think I'm set on pc. This part of the thread is about using troonix instead of windows which I feel like is just going to break and then I won't be able to play anymore, plus I was thinking I could use some other stuff that only works on windows.

Usually a few hundred dollars less if you really shop around for deals. The difference gets less and less as you go for higher end parts.
     
     The monumental frustration of ordering everything and then learning how for the first time is not worth it unless you plan to make a hobby of it.

     You would be running linux and then what is effectively an emulatioin layer for windows on top of that with more potential points of failure.

Origin used to be really really good but they've declined in recent years. Still probably acceptable quality however.
     
     People in the thread will throw tomatoes at me for suggesting places like this but after a lot of research on my part, I decided they're really the best option if you A) do not want to build yourself B) do not want to end up with an absolutely horrid piece of shit build. Prebuilt PCs that you get from bestbuy or whatever are famously awful and unreliable. Picking one up at a brick and mortar store is not recommended.

     :blobcatshrug: honestly it's always up to you what OS you use at the end of the day but Linux is both free and runs games just fine, the setup is just slightly different than on Windows
