@susie @mangeurdenuage IIRC the Switch Online controller is actually the original joystick
Otherwise, Brawler 64 has a nice joystick, even if it's not the original
The issue is that the original N64 joystick design is actually quite complex
One of the reasons it got so loose is that the retards forgot to lubricate the US joysticks, so the white powder you saw was the thing literally falling apartHaelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: likes this. -

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew It doesn't help those cheap chinese n64 controllers have actually digital joystics with only 4 directions instead of analog ones. I did try to research and buy a n64 controller to use on emulators few years back and there was nothing out there I could buy with a proper original n64 joystick. Feels bad man. -

@mangeurdenuage @susie @coolboymew Sort of, Dempa Micomsoft already had a saner design released nearly 10 years earlier and that's the one Sega and Sony decided to copy (and later Nintendo as well), N64 was just a true anomaly in every sense -

@coolboymew @susie @mangeurdenuage so this brawler64 thing youve been talking about is a controller! ok will reread.
have chinese manufactured controllers gotten wrose? last i checked they made the controllers for nintendo, the consoles themselves were made in japan tho iirc. i havent checked the last gens stuff. the big problem today is its hard to know whether the china bashing is genuine cos theres an agenda that HAS seeped into fedi an online social discourse too so, i dont knw.

@susie @coolboymew @mangeurdenuage if someone wanted to design indie games in the style of goldeneye 64 are there any usb controllers that are like an n64 controller?
i tried at a some stores recently but they didn't seem to which surprised me, it would need to have the c buttons tho, not a c-stick.

@frogzone @susie @mangeurdenuage There's a bunch of clones, but avoid the chinese crap, they crap out easily
Otherwise, Brawler 64 (there's a sale going on right now, link in thread) is pretty good. But it's not original shaped
You can get the Switch Online N64 controller and connect it on your PC with a program, or with the 8bit do retro receiver (works in Linux too btw) -

@coolboymew @mangeurdenuage I had the EU/PAL controllers and I loved the joystick. After N64 going to PS2 felt such a downgrade even though now that Dualshock 2 controller was also a freaking beast compared to what comes out nowadays. Just something about no soft padding and thin edges made it way easier to control for me.
Also I love GameCube controller C-Stick over any modern "two identical sticks" configuration. It just felt so easy and quick to flick with the tip of the thumb. -
