There's a personal sweet spot for every person on how much "freedom" they have at work.

I think a lot of people might want to be their own boss — because it sounds cool. On paper.
They are however not wired to be productive like that, the kind of "flexibility" they can come up with is less work more play.
But people lacking self-discipline doesn't mean they should be forced into submission — it should still be an informed choice: they should be able to try both, probably fail and figure it out for themselves.
Another problem is that they see lots of counterexamples — bosses who got their position not with hard work, but underhanded tricks or knowing the right people, who indeed only collect bonuses, don't bear responsibilities for anything and don't do any real work — this is a bad role model, but it's very easy to follow.kaia likes this. -

Sick Sun (sun@shitposter.world)'s status on Thursday, 18-Apr-2024 18:40:07 JST Sick Sun @EmoIsDeadAndSoAmI @kaia @lain I am not a marxist but some of the criticism is plausible to me. Like yeah you are competing against companies that can bankrupt you in your early stages to keep their monopoly so there is a bias where the wealthy stay wealthy and keep others from getting wealthier by the same method. part of why I am not a marxist is I think it's not something you can fix though and it's more useful to try to mitigate while still within the framework of money and competition. -

Sick Sun (sun@shitposter.world)'s status on Thursday, 18-Apr-2024 19:04:26 JST Sick Sun @lain @kaia @EmoIsDeadAndSoAmI I'm not saying it's a crime just that intuitively it's correct that money makes it easier to make more money so wealth concentrates and locks other people out of wealth. I know you know that is not the only factor though and there are advantages to being
small and not sclerotic. -

And procrastination, but I don't want to acknowledge it. I'm sweeping procrastination under the carpet. Nothing to see here. Look at my OCD instead. See how clean and completed everything is because of it? :blobcatsmile:kaia likes this. -
