    @Jes DP++ ports are able to switch to sending an HDMI signal over the DP pins, but HDMI and DP signals are entirely different in nature on both the logical and the electrical level.

    HDMI can be viewed as "digital VGA" whereas DP is a packet protocol for media and data streams.

      @clacke I would refer HDMI more like a "digital SCART" since VGA didn't have audio transport.

      @Hipska Fair enough, but it will confuse non-Europeans who didn't grow up with SCART. 😊

      (I think they didn't?)

      I have yet to see a DP port on a source that will not drive an HDMI port on a sink.
      OTOH, HDMI on the source with a DP sink requires DP, erm, Double Plugs on the source, those cables need power, as provided by the Universal Strom Bus.

      @crashglasshouses Ah, so by "FM" you mean "TV antenna cable".

      @Hipska @clacke

      FM is the reason why we needed that switch box to change between the TV antenna input and computer input. that carried sound iirc. component video alone doesn't do sound, but i think the DIN plug on the Atari XE and XL computers included a component audio output.

      @crashglasshouses Interesting, but can't find anything about "FM" and component video also didn't have audio.

      @clacke @Hipska @TempestDerg @lispi314 @Jes i think a few things had SCART in NA, but most used FM or component video.

      @Hipska Component or composite video connection would not carry audio, so the actual SCART-like is component/composite + audio.

      I never used component video, but three RCA plugs yellow, red, white for composite, right, left was very common also in Europe, even though we had SCART.

      (And not all SCART devices would have RGB either, some only had composite)
