@msw Oh Amazon could easily (relative term, being used here in the context of a trillion-dollar company) make that work without running afoul of any data protection legislation – we both know the reason we have the (woefully inadequate) legislation we have is to limit corporate surveillance/profiling efforts and tackle the power imbalance between people and multi-billion and trillion-dollar corporations, not to frustrate the meeting of people’s needs. But, hey, it’s a topsy-turvy world.

I understand that kids' academic progress is important -- I'm the daughter of two very intense educators 😆 -- but I think our state and federal governments have no clue just how bad the last few years have been for kids. And the "get back to normal as fast as possible" mindset allows zero space for the toll it's all taken.

@aral @Saltssaltgirl The anecdote about the kids and gloves really hits hard. My daughter's elementary school provided winter coats for kids every year, all from community donations. And all OKCPS schools provide free breakfast and free lunch to any child under the age of 18 and/or enrolled in school.
People really underestimate everything that schools and teachers do for kids. 🤘

@courtcan it’s hard to imagine how many kids don’t have basic needs, including food and shelter, but it’s everywhere. We can’t expect kids to pass standardized tests as their tummies rumble, but try telling that to the people who push their agendas.
