      @sb @aral OK, OK, now for a slightly different hypothetical: A much larger campaigning NGO - Palestine Solidarity Campaign (UK) with its 93.5K Followers on the Xitter, when might be a good time for it to go down that route?
      Or alternatively should busy NGOs mainly ignore the cries of the evangelists and wait until they've the time resource to spare and just very slowly start to build their presence in the Fedi like they did in the very early days of Twitter?
      Asking because everyone seems to be evangelising from the POV of individual users rather than larger orgs? It's such a huge ask that an org should make that jump and hope it can bring the majoroty of its crowd with it.

      @rooftopjaxx @sb It would probably be a better use of everyone’s time if instead of hypotheticals we addressed the needs of actual folks who are looking to switch and asking for help to do so.

      Folks here are offering to help those who want to make the switch. They don’t need to also spend time defending their kind offer to help.

      (Yes, switching is not going to be seamless. If an org feels that they’re better off in the Elon Musk Nazi Bar, that’s their decision.)

      @rooftopjaxx @aral
      I'd say make an appeal to your followers, members, etc. Spell out why you don't want your organisation to be affiliated with or support muskcorp. Make them feel it. Give them a better place to go - pick a server and explain how to get there.

      Better still run your own server for them! If you feel the need to sweeten the pot a bit, point out that their handles will be @whomever@myclub.com. That's way cooler than just a generic twitter url.

      @sb hypothetically, a 100% fan owned community football club wants to keep(/transition) its 32.2K Xitter Followers, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.… So what's your solution then?

      @richlitt
      The main and probably easiest to transition to would be #Ghost. You can move to ghost.org, or another 3rd-party host, or host it yourself!

      Migration guide: https://ghost.org/docs/migration/substack/

      Official site: https://ghost.org/

      There is also #Buttondown which I haven't checked out myself yet, but it's the next most popular alternative.

      Migration guide: https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-migrate-newsletter-substack-to-buttondown/

      Official site: https://buttondown.email/

      If you're not too concerned with the monetization aspects and into something clean & barebones, you could also consider #writeFreely (I use this myself).

      https://writefreely.org/

      #Wordpress is also an option, but I'm hesitant to recommend it, as #wp is a whole thing in it's own.

      I hope that helps!

      @sb What is a good alternative to Substack? TinyLetter just died, and I don't have an alt. lined up yet.
