@reflex I do agree that consent is key. “No block but users can opt out” version to my view is how we we would treat any other Fediverse server like this - but for admins who feel differently silencing seems to me to be far more appropriate right now than blocking. And I think would function as the opt in you mentioned.

It's always amazing to see how many words people have to use to rationalize betrayal of their stated values.

@jwcph @tchambers @fediversenews @hachyderm I'm a little worried about meta hosting bad content (brigading, hate speech, etc) and it harming us via federation. I'm even more worried about us becoming meta, in the sense of figuring that kind of bad content is just too hard to stop and we don't really need to stop it and so on. Whether federating makes that more or less likely, I'm not too sure, but I do think vigilance will be needed either way.

Are you aware that every single one of those parameters for harm is elastic - and that therefore starting like this, you're barreling towards the exact same fruitless "did they or didn't they?" discussion Meta has been hiding its wrongdoing behind for like two decades at this point?
- or do you simply believe that Meta is going to place nice this time?

@jwcph @fediversenews @hachyderm it’s actually straightforward - Treat them like any other server. Have clear lines like this. They cross the lines and you moderate to the issue. Up to and including a full block.

One very nit-picky point: "Spammers and toxic accounts inside the P92 network we or our social graph don’t follow" should read something like "interact with" instead of "follow" because DM spam, or toxic replies, can happen even if you don't follow the bad account (as you seem to be aware of based on the rest of the document).
