Hey everyone -

I took the liberty of installing Bird UI from @rolle as a test to see how it goes over. It's our default at the moment and I think it's got a lot of readability advantages over the Mastodon default. I'd still like a custom UI related to our focus, but this looks like an improvement.

If people don't like it let me know and I'll revert. Feedback appreciated and thanks to Roni!

@tchambers @fediversenews Hasn't it proven woefully inadequate to date? And they explicitly stated fact checking on political posts won't be a thing.

They have a large network that is mostly dead. We have a smaller network that is very active. I feel like we should be making the demands here.

@tchambers @fediversenews Has Threads announced a moderation policy and made moderators available? That's a basic requirement for most fediverse instances. Who do we complain to? Or are we supposed to play whack a mole with a hundred million users?

@kainoa @Maholmire Also the CEO is a COVID denier. ultimately the entire browser only exists because of homophobia and is an example of how cishet white dude CEOs only fail upwards.

@reiver What's to stop the opportunistic from 'forking' and rebranding in order to keep that money for themselves? I'm thinking of some very minor forks of existing projects that appear more about splitting the dev community than building better software, and now they'd have the opportunity to split the revenue stream as well...

@kainoa You are at my target weight I see, but I have a ways to go to get there.

@tk God I spent so many years as a QA and none of the devs seemed to understand this basic principle.

@kainoa I did this by accident on a trip to Portugal in 2016. It's miserable. I was always used to my Sicilian skin getting red then deep tan in a few days. I didn't realize that a white sand beach was far more dangerous than a regular one, the doctor in Portugal said it was closer to a microwave than an oven.

Go to the doctor, get a strong antihistamine to stop the sun allergy part (where you blister at the touch of sunlight), get a skin cancer screening in a few months. Keep cool.
