   #SpaceHost is now giving money to the #Lemmy developers on a monthly basis.

   If someone hosts a #Lemmy instance with #SpaceHost — #SpaceHost will give a portion of the net revenue to the Lemmy developers on an ongoing basis.

   As more people host Lemmy servers with #SpaceHost , the amount we will be able to give to the Lemmy developers will increase.

   ( #SpaceHost will do the same for every other open-source Fediverse software we host, too.)

     ...

     We pick the software that SpaceHost hosts.

     Just because someone forks something doesn't mean SpaceHost automatically picks it up.

     There is an internal review process.

     ...

     Forks are also treated differently than original projects.The funds may also be split with the developers of the original project.

     We evaluate each project ourselves to figure out the exact details.

     @reiver What's to stop the opportunistic from 'forking' and rebranding in order to keep that money for themselves? I'm thinking of some very minor forks of existing projects that appear more about splitting the dev community than building better software, and now they'd have the opportunity to split the revenue stream as well...
