@pfefferle When any mastodon post includes a link, it effectively creates a DDOS attack as every server that finds that post queries the linking website for a preview image. On a small hosted blog like mine (alberniweather dot ca) with 2GB of RAM from the virtual host, it dies for 5-10 minutes every time I post a link to it or make a new blog post until the "attack" is over. It's in the pipeline to be addressed... but has been for many years apparently. cc: https://mastodon.social/@box464/111562062141806162
I am definitely only a man and far away from being a super hero 😉
But: NodeInfo and WebFinger are already supported by the ActivityPub plugin (no need to install these plugins) and I am in direct contact with @alex about how we could/should bring the friends and ActivityPub plugin together.
But first we have to finalize the publishing/commenting part before thinking about the following!
I thought you were likely an innocent bystander. Loving the plugin by the way. If it's not too much to ask, what's your thoughts on the recommendations to have node-info and friends and other plugins as kind of companions? Is the thought to roll those into the AP plugin at some point or are you just one man and not a super-hero? :)
@defred that is @photomatt the co-founder of WordPress and the founder of Automattic. And thanks to that tweet, Matt and Automattic, I can work full time on ActivityPub for WordPress!
@pfefferle Hay don't know who's that Mullen, but it looks like you're quoting yourself, in joy that wordpress has somehow enable the link with the fediverse (excluding the other-blue-shit). How so ? True question I'm not aware of such stuff (I'm out of web design/admin/dev), thanks for any links.
