   Dammit. Found an ill feral kitten in the rain by the village church. It was still there 3 hours later, so into a box it goes, and to the vet this afternoon.

     The kitten is, in fact, a very small and extremely dehydrated adult cat. We''re going to be drip-feeding her water every half hour and hoping that she pulls through.

     The cat is now moving independently and has eaten soup-type food. Fingers crossed that her kidneys do everything they're supposed to.

     Okay, she's not pee'd yet, so don't get attached, but if you'd like to wish luck to the sickly feral kitty, this is what she looks like.

     She's had a second bowl of cat soup and drunk water from a bowl unaided, and is now napping. ( @Escoutaire has been caring for her for most of this afternoon.)

     @HauntedOwlbear Please give the sickly feral adult kitten my best wishes for her survival!

     Also, if she would find them comforting rather than threatening, some scritches behind the ear.

     Morning! She lives! And may even have piddled on the floor, but also spilled her water, so hard to call.

     Exploration has been happening. Have a bad photo of little kitty.

     We understand pets and also treats, but not litter trays. She's much more active, appreciates company (Small Owlbear did their reading homework for her) and seems to be urinating. No solids yet. The floor is too cold for her bum, thus cat blanket.

     And her digestive system works! That's all the immediately critical checks passed.

     The vet heard a heart murmur but it could be an underlying condition or the result of starvation and dehydration, but for the next couple of weeks we'll see if we can improve her condition enough for the vet to be able to do any meaningful tests.

     She's doing even better this morning. Walking with stronger hind legs in particular, she obviously drank from her bowl overnight, and is generally more alert.

     This is obviously still a very ill cat, but I was genuinely surprised to see how perky she is this morning.

     She's not super happy about being trapped in a bathroom and is pacing quite a lot, but it's a big improvement on a cold and wet pavement, so I think she's just going to have to suck this one up.

     Later, I'm going to have to box the kitty, break out the veterinary disinfectant and very thoroughly clean down the floor. Litter trays are an alien concept to this kitty and spot cleaning isn't really cutting it.

     (Apologies for having turned into the stray cat updates channel. Regular service will resume when I'm less preoccupied by this.)

     @lunarloony After this, mine now includes "give fluids immediately, drip-feeding by syringe if necessary".

     It didn't occur to me that a cat I found in the rain would be so dehydrated.

     (It's pure speculation, but I think she got trapped in the barely-used church I found her outside a door of, was found and put out sometime on Monday night, and by then was too weak to drink from puddles.)

     @vga256 already done, but using the paper towel from wiping up is a great idea. She's kind of getting the idea and peeing in the general vicinity of the tray. Honestly, she seemed broadly incontinent for the first couple of days, so I'm happy with her progress.

     @HauntedOwlbear you've probably already done this but - if the vet didn't mention it, putting her (blech) urine in the litter box will help her figure out that's what it's used for. might even be as simple as mopping it up with paper towel and mixing them into the litter.

     Stronger every morning. She tried to clamber off my lap by herself after cuddles this morning.

     She has symptoms of renal failure, but it could also be after effects of dehydration. Or both. If that is the case, might see if the vet can administer electrolytes when she goes for her still-alive? checkup.

     No check up yet, but vet has recommended renal support broth. Apparently it is tasty, per little kitty's initial response.

     Little kitty update. Still eating like a champ. She fell asleep on a towel in my lap, so that's today's bed.

     She can't see any more than changes from light to darkness, but we're keeping things in consistent locations, with different textures to act as sign posts.
