"Marquita Bradshaw, a Democrat who supports Ms. Lee, ran unsuccessfully for Senate in Tennessee and was the only Black woman to secure a major-party nomination for Senate in 2020, said one of the issues for her and other Black female candidates was a lack of well-established funding networks. "
You're going to feel even worse when you read about Pelosi family's role in prolonging DiFi's Senate stay:
“It’s very tricky, and political, because they want her to stay” in the Senate, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to speak candidly about a sensitive situation. “The political thinking is that if DiFi stays as long as possible, it helps Schiff as well.”
See "FOUR FAMILIES, THREE GENERATIONS" chart detailing the interlaced generational ties among the Brown, Newsom, Pelosi, and Getty families, which date back three generations.
The same year, #BarbaraLee won her first race for US House, having fought her way slowly from obscurity.
25yo Gavin's 1998 was different. “That year, Newsom ran his first campaign: a bid to hold on to a county supervisor seat, which then-Mayor Willie Brown had appointed him to fill" partly b/c of his coterie ("These kids had all grown up together")
The NYT described Newsom & Billy Getty's Balboa Café in 1998 as “a glittering nexus for Gen-X San Franciscans with social & political connections”
CONTRAST: "#GavinNewsom...was born connected—& those alliances have paid handsome dividends throughout his career. A coterie of San Francisco’s wealthiest families...settled on Newsom, 50, as their favored candidate 2 decades ago" said mentor Willie Brown: “He came from their world. They didn’t need to interview him. They knew what he stood for.”
"They first backed him when he was a restaurateur & winery owner running for a seat on the [SF] Board of Supervisors in 1998"
also you may remember this report from May 2023 this year quoting a source close to the Pelosi family "who spoke on condition of anonymity to speak candidly about a sensitive situation"
"If DiFi resigns right now, there is an enormous probability that ...Lee gets appointed" “It’s very tricky, & political...they want her to stay” in Senate. “The political thinking is that if DiFi stays as long as possible, it helps Schiff” https://progressives.social/@chargrille/111169316164961338
(This was when Pelosi's daughter Nancy was escorting Feinstein around DC - when she finally came back in May to enable Democrats to move on the judicial appointments that her absence was blocking.)
I think ordinary people don't know this? (i.e., people who are unfamiliar with San Francisco money and politics).
I guarantee you that everyone involved in this appointment process knows all this. I sure as shit know Black women in CA politics and especially in Oakland are aware LOL.
Yes the chart doesn't even include the Pelosi daughter wheeling Feinstein around DC trying to keep her in office as long as possible despite her terrible mental and physical decline, instead of telling her it was time to retire & give CA real representation in the Senate. They probably made the last months of Feinstein's life really unpleasant and unnecessarily confusing for her. I find the entire thing so incredibly horrible.
I doubt #KatiePorter will even say anything about this travesty of corruption & back room dealing on this appointment, because she probably owes her first election to the House to #EMILYslist. #DisappointedInAdvance
(Their PAC) "Women Vote! dropped nearly a quarter of a million dollars to support Porter in California [in the primary for her first congressional race], an amount Min’s campaign couldn’t keep pace with"
@chargrille i haven't dealt with electioneering in ages but did at one point with Emily's List until i figured out most of the women they supported were of a certain hue. so this new president came as a surprise
but am done with the triangulating BS of the church of pelosi. i saw first-hand how they did dirty migrants because Thiel paid them millions for marriage equality. "Trump's gay" who got ICE disappear the babies they threw in cages
There were several pieces about it in late spring of this year, after #Feinstein finally returned because Californians & others had lost patience with the holdup of Democratic judicial appointments that her extended absence (3 months, iirc) had caused.
None of this is #Butler's fault but she should know about it.
@eagerpebble Yes but it's from 2019 and I think it became a bigger issue either contemporaneous with this, or just after.
And of course Pelosi's daughter Nancy Corinne Prowda, being Feinstein's secret caretaker when she finally was made to go back to the Senate in May 2023, was afterwards.
Anyway the idea that Pelosi & Newsom weren't working together to help Schiff is ridiculous on its face.
Reading an article of Newsom's handling of the appointment. Timeline includes Christine Pelosi's pushback after Newsom said he would appoint a Black woman for the next vacancy in the midst of his recall election.
“You don’t have to like Dianne Feinstein to see that pushing her out of her elected position for a Black woman appointment that you could have made when there is an actual vacancy to win a recall to push you out of your elected position is a very bad look,” tweeted Christine Pelosi, daughter of House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and former chair of the California Democratic Party Women’s Caucus.
@Hey_Beth Thank you! Yes, I just read that one a little earlier tonight. Fails to highlight the racial justice aspect of the appointment politics, or recall Pelosis' activism to benefit Schiff, but I thought it was a pretty good piece on other aspects!
