Calling it a demon would be more accurate than "a healthy normal part of human sexuality and behavior", which is what we're expectes to believe. Suddenly, and without rationale, less than a decade ago, that was the thing everyone has to believe. So if you're into Nietzsche, the best archetype to compare the sudden behavioral change to is religious ferver dictated by the ruling priest class who also happen to hate Christianity. The Christians just had a more compelling God, one that could capture the loyalty of the lower classes. Where previous gods were personifications of natural and psychological forces, as likely to kill humans or drive them mad as to help them, and themselves vulnerable to other powerful Gods, He was singularly all-powerful, beyond comprehension, and, most importantly, he gave the right incentives. He gave the lowly hope, He was friendlier towards women than the Roman deities who were kinda rapey, and He promised that everyone had value.
  
  Christianity, at least as practiced by our ancestors, was far more influenced by the europeans and hellenic middle-easterners than the reverse. We kind of took it on hollowed it out, and made it our own. It could have been any religion, honestly. Christianity is not unique.

Only two, but really one of you believe the association between Daniel and Babylon, religious origins that don't involve some group of gods battling it out to create nature and shape existence—Christianity and Zoroastrianism. The foundation of Christianity is a good set of rules from a moral perspective that encourages prosocial behaviors. Godcast has said it right that "Christianity is a fluid that will shape to the culture it encounters" (paraphrasing), and I think that's true. Europeans undeniably had a better historical ground in place and the right genetic stock to become the dominant civilization, but I think it's foolish to discount Christianity. And that's me being purely practical and not "religious". I have been in too many hellthreads lately on the subject, so I need to chill.
