As I'm going through the indictment more closely.
What I see:
The goal was to for Trump to stay in the White House and then use the military to keep him there.
So far I see two mentions from co-conspirators that they understand the timeline to be like this:
🔹 Trump finds pretexts to stay in the White House.
🔹 When the date passes in which he is supposed to leave, there will be "riots" in the street.
🔹 Trump then uses the military to put down the protests.

In other words, people have settled on the "January 6 attempted insurrection."
In fact, the planned insurrection was later.
The violence on January 6 was just a step toward the pretext for the real violence when Trump would command the armed forces.
Adding: I am not saying it would have worked.
I am saying this was the plan.

Looking back at history, if you're in the position of, "I trust that the military won't assist in this coup", you're in deep, deep trouble because a whole lot of the time they DO.
I don't think the possibility is one that should be dismissed out of hand just because we think we're special. Everyone thinks they're special right up until they find out they're not.

@Biohazardous @weaselx86 @garbageman @Teri_Kanefield Soeaking as someone with some contact with the military community, the dicey thing is that most are loyal to the Constitition, but the few that aren’t could have caused a divide in the military when we needed to be united against Trump’s coup attempt.
These are not delusional concerns-we could have seen a chaotic massacre by people more delusional than the Nazis even were.

No. Military officers are prohibited from obeying illegal orders. There was some uncertainty about that for a while, but they started to make it clear, as I noted in this tweet I posted June 9, 2020.

The pretty obvious flaw here is that the officer has to believe that the order is illegal. And a sizeable portion of our military is made of Trumpers/"conservatives".
And not every member has to agree, just some, and then at the very least we still have a huge damn problem on our hands.

@BonehouseWasps @Teri_Kanefield It sounded to me that the riots they were expecting would be people protesting Trump’s coup. That’s why he’d invoke the Insurrection Act and send in the troops.
