Alright, I have a working example of use of scrobbling going here: https://gitlab.com/soapbox-pub/soapbox/-/merge_requests/2567
Basically if you scrobble to Pleroma’s API it will show your song as “currently playing” under your name (truncated) for a duration equal to the amount of time the song or video or whatever you scrobbled lasts.
If you don’t scrobble anything or haven’t scrobbled anything recently, it shows nothing. Two examples of posts, one with and one without the feature.

Scrobble is a made-up word by Last.fm that basically lets users create a play history from any client that will hit their API. Pleroma has a scrobble API as well, and this is my first attempt to actually make use of it.
Right now I have a little web extension that monitors my YouTube/Spotify/etc use and hits the Pleroma API. I have a separate PR for that here: https://github.com/web-scrobbler/web-scrobbler/pull/3908
I’ll likely also write a Last.fm –> fedi scrobble bridge, since Last.fm works with basically everything as-is.

So I changed it around a bit:
It always shows the most recent scrobble, and instead of stating explicitly if it’s “currently playing” or just an old play from last week or whatever, a currently playing track is just more prominent.

Good point. Here’s what it looks like now. The change in prominence is no longer text size, but color of text. I also took your idea of using a pause icon for old scrobbles and a play icon for new ones. I kept the timestamp as-is.
