@gabriel @Aslanmane The thing I find infuriating about the 15min city thing is when proponents claim all the positive things about 15min cities like its some sort of revolution in town planning. Dude, we've been living that way for 1000's of years, and you're now gaslighting us to believe you have the solution for urban living? get lost!

The "conspiracy" is that they are a mechanism to eliminate mobility rights. If cars are "phased out" and the only way in-or-out is a train that can refuse service to you on arbitrary grounds...you're trapped.
15 minute cities are feared to be well-branded HOAs run by surveillance capitalists instead of the residents. Essentially being involuntarily confined to a centrally controlled open-air digital prison.
I don't think anyone is against convenient access to services within walking distance, but I do see many worried about centrally-planned infrastructure being a privacy and discrimination nightmare. -

Richard (aslanmane@theres.life)'s status on Wednesday, 14-Jun-2023 14:32:52 JST Richard @gabriel I had no idea that 15-min cities were a thing. Let alone something that people had conspiracy theories about.
I love my supermarket, chemist, church, mother and train station being within a short bike ride from my house 🤷♂️
Oh and down with violence, if it needed to be said 😄 -

Sir Nedwood - Sydney 🇦🇺 (ned@noagendasocial.com)'s status on Wednesday, 14-Jun-2023 16:52:17 JST Sir Nedwood - Sydney 🇦🇺 @Aslanmane @gabriel @fu The freak out about 15min cities began when Oxford in the UK did a trial. And as part of that trial, they closed down roads between different zones. So to go from zone A to B you had to go the long way round via the highway. In this way they could track when you left your zone. From this people extrapolated to all the things Gabe mentioned. So banning cars isn't the first step, it the future potential step.

Richard (aslanmane@theres.life)'s status on Wednesday, 14-Jun-2023 16:52:18 JST Richard @gabriel it turns out that my state government had 3 pilot '20 minute city' programs in 2018. The nearest to me was the suburb of Croydon South, page 12 shows a map of "future opportunities". Things to note:
1. It's a government project not a market led project.
2. There are no proposals to ban cars from the suburb.
3. There are no proposals to make trains the only mode of transport.
I agree with @ned it seems like a marketing buzz word. I think I've given this topic enough attention.

Claiming everything will be within 15mins, while providing no additional services within 15mins.

the real issue is attempting to box people into a draconian smart city with cameras and sensors on everything in a lockstep is good for nobody, other than the so called controllers. -
