    So, one thing that's tricky about moving accounts between servers on Mastodon is that your old stuff doesn't get copied over.

    One way to do this is to have the new account re-share all the old account's activities. Very noisy for followers!

    Another way that would be cool is if, when you move, the new account creates a collection of the old activities that's navigable from the new account. This would just be a single Create activity, so not very noisy at all.

      @liaizon yes. That'd be editing history on lots of different servers. It's not a reasonable expectation.

      But archiving stuff on your new server, so that you knew that your own stuff is backed up and available, would be a good next step.

      @evan the harder problem is the interactions WITH the posts. If I move my posts from one server to another, I would expect all the likes and replies to point to the new version of the old post. so simply reposting the content on a new location isnt quite there (tho its better then losing it entirely)

      @marcelcosta one share per activity would always be noisy.

      @evan Could you re-share the content prior to the migration? That way you wouldn't be noisy...

      @liaizon I don't know what they do, and I don't intend to investigate it. I find it infuriating to even discuss the BS protocol. What do you like about it?

      @evan what do you think of the method that ATProto is taking in this area?

      @evan

      Is this because of limitations of Mastodon or ActivityPub?

      @liaizon it's perfectly reasonable for folks to be evaluating the project. I hope the developer and user community finds good patterns to bring back to the open, standardized, widely-implemented social web. I wish the BS team had put their effort directly into ActivityPub and Activity Streams 2.0 instead of wasting their time on a proprietary dead end, but they did what they though was best for them.

      @evan Well I don't want to irritate you by discussing it so I will leave that for another matter. Glad to see you putting your all into fediverse stuff these days and I am 100% on board with the fediverse, I personally find it exciting to see other projects having to tackle some of the same issues we have been facing here for over a decade! I hope we can all get to the place where communal autonomy of our online presence is in sight...

      I agree, it's good to have an archive out of band, but this is intended as a way for people to navigate your archive online.

      Even better to archive on your own system that no one else can jeopardize:

      @liaizon sorry, I meant "snowflake". I'll revise the original. I appreciate the correction.

      @evan @liaizon I don’t think anything on the Bluesy side is proprietary. As far as I see the only think they haven’t been releasing is their iOS client app. But as far as I can tell everything they are doing else wise is FLOSS
