@thomasfuchs The fact is also, that a project like this wouldn't be possible today due to regulations. Finally this project symbolises more than anything the incredible voter support the SPÖ received in post war Vienna, a position they have long since lost. What this project really teaches is that the socialist for the first time didn't need the conservatives, and it also symbolises a certain rift in Austria politics, where the two center parties were strongly fighting against each other.

Over the recent years the creation of the "Donauinsel" has gotten a lot more media coverage. And while some at least praise the building, all focus on the "vehement protests". And while conservative bashing is always fun, let's add some more context so it doesn't just become a cheap excuse to make vague political statements:
The Socialists together with the Far Right, green lit the project & it was one of the most ludicrous ideas proposed. 1/2

@AhaAchja Diesen Wählern geht es nicht darum gehört zu werden oder ob ein Politiker sich für sie interessiert. Es geht ganz allein darum den aktuellen Politikern und den System eine auszuwischen. Da geht es nicht um Konsequenzen, es geht nurnoch darum dem Frust freien Lauf zu lassen gegen "die da oben". Und die Leute machen das auf die einzige Weise die sie kennen und die noch keinen Strafbestand darstellt.
