@mekkaokereke Is there a place where we can donate to help these goals get achieved? Thanks!
Edit: I know about the main donation link for Mastodon but I wonder if maybe there is something else where money is earmarked for these goals?

Me trying to manage all my ME/CFS symptoms 🤕
🧵 I signed up to phonebank for the Harris campaign this afternoon. I've done some door to door canvassing (back when I was young/healthy) but I've never made phone calls.
Luckily, I don't have social anxiety. I do have some cognitive issues and hope they don't
I'm sharing my experience on here in case it will motivate others to volunteer. I plan to add to this thread sporadically today and tomorrow.
Feel free to ask me questions!

@bob Maybe! 🤞
I'm using CW due to reporting on infant deaths, not abortion.
"A New Study Confirms That the Texas Abortion Ban 'Is Responsible' for a Rise in Infant Deaths"
https://www.thenation.com/article/society/study-texas-abortion-ban-infant-deaths/
“We found that infant mortality increased pretty substantially in Texas but not in the rest of the country …" (nearly 13 percent in 2022)

"Black Americans demand to know what ‘Black jobs’ are after Trump debate comment"
‘Hello from my Black job’: Dems strike back after Trump debate remark
Democratic politicians took to social media Friday to poke fun at and criticize former president Donald Trump’s remark during the debate that immigrants coming into the United States illegally are “taking Black jobs.”

@mcc Agreed! I think both Maine and Vermont allow voting while in prison.
Edit: I thought I should add a link with actual data since my comment was based on my very faulty memory:

I've joined the "Teach ME, Treat ME" campaign from #MEAction
We're asking for ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome) to be taught in medical schools and via continuing education (CME)
⭐️ And you can help! ⭐️
Please share this CME with your healthcare providers:

"Fear of COVID fades even as virus remains a ‘significant threat,’ survey reveals"
"The changing attitudes reflect recent shifts in public health policy…
However, this may not accurately mirror the actual threat of COVID-19, which continues to claim hundreds of American lives each week and land thousands more in hospitals."
Amazingly, 22% of survey takers had never heard of Long Covid! 🤯

When I forget what I'm doing (which is often, especially when switching windows or tabs for cutting/pasting!) I go to a blank text file and just paste whatever is in the clipboard.
It doesn't always work but every once in a while it gives me a clue about what I was trying to do.
For my USA followers - an #MEAction article on the NIH "Home Test To Treat" program:
"Acute COVID-19 treatment and testing is unfortunately becoming harder and harder to access with the U.S. government public health emergency having been declared ended. The Home Test To Treat pilot program is a way to fill that gap in an accessible and equitable way."

@augieray We must do BOTH.
Yes, we need to do more to prevent COVID infections, but we also need research to find treatments for people already disabled by post viral illness, whether that's Long Covid, ME/CFS, or something else.
As Dr. Al-Aly said, "We’ve marginalized these conditions and swept them under the rug for the past 100 years … This pandemic is an opportunity to do it right.”
"Switching arms between vaccine doses could dramatically improve immune response, OHSU study shows" 😲
Surprising news! This is dated last week but it aired just a couple days ago
From Washington Post:
"This pay phone is free, but you can’t make a call. It only plays birdsongs."

"Listeners push 1 to hear a yellow-crowned night heron, 7 to hear a pileated woodpecker’s call and 9 for the distinct scream of a red-tailed hawk. Instructions about how to use the phone are in three languages: English, Spanish and Amharic — a reflection of Takoma Park’s Ethiopian community."
"A discovery in the muscles of long COVID patients may explain exercise troubles"
Post-exertional malaise is "a hallmark of long COVID and similar complex illnesses like chronic fatigue syndrome or ME/CFS.
The idea that exercise can help patients has proven difficult to shake — despite evidence suggesting this isn't merely a case of deconditioning that patients can overcome by pushing through the pain."

Article from World Health Organization website:
“For me, long COVID was life destroying”
"Of those infected by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, 1 in 10 will go on to develop long COVID…
Long COVID can develop in people of all ages, regardless of severity of original symptoms. It is also known that the chance of developing the condition increases the more times a person gets reinfected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus."

Yep. Some alt text is so bad - "cat" or "screenshot" - that I'd call it malicious compliance.
Medscape:
"Second Infection Hikes Long COVID Risk: Expert Q&A"
"People infected multiple times with COVID-19 are more likely to develop long COVID, and most never fully recover from the condition. Those are two of the most striking findings of a comprehensive new 3-year research study of 138,000 veterans"
"Some patients do experience some recovery. But that's not the norm. Most people do not really fully recover"
