Pouhiou Lafon Roudier of @Framasoft presents @peertube at #NGIFORUM23 "We built a videoplatform based on old internet values such as decentralization. Not one big platform but many small federated platforms." More than a 1000 instances & a million video's. All that in six years and one paid developer. (A 2nd dev recently joined. Yay!) "With little means we can do a lot in the open source community",
NGI0 turned 5 today! Since 2018 we've been on a mission to make a better internet for everyone. This has always been a collective effort with many many many people pitching in. To celebrate this collaboration we invite everyone to our Call for Participation. Prizes for everyone :) https://nlnet.nl/news/2023/20231101-FiveYearsNGI0.html
@wvdraay Thanks, that really means a lot to us. For all who don't know Wytze: he is one of the original folks behind NLnet and among others its financial director from 1989 to 2007 - and winner of a well-deserved NLUUG Lifetime Achievement award. We probably would not be around without him...
Join us for our webinar How To Make Your Digital Product Accessible For All. Charlotte Swart will discuss accessibility and share the most common issues.
Charlotte is a user experience researcher at NGI0 partner HAN University. She leads the #accessibility auditing team for NGI0 projects. In the webinar she'll demonstrate how an audit works.

What do we mean when we say Fediverse? In The Multiple Meanings of the Fediverse, @fediversereport explores three different interpretations of the word. Each based on a different founding principle: Community, ActivityPub, or Interoperability. Keeping in mind that people may have different interpretations can be useful when having conversations about the #fediverse. https://fediversereport.com/the-multiple-meanings-of-fediverse/
The @fediversereport featured an article about NLnet, one of the NGIZero coalition partners. It focuses on NLnet's involvement in funding #fediverse projects and gives insight into the grant application process. Many thanks to @laurenshof from The Fediverse Report, the newsletter providing links and context to news happening in the fediverse. https://fediversereport.com/meet-nlnet/
Version 5.2 of @peertube is out! The biggest new feature is remote video transcoding. The idea is to let servers of the #PeerTube platform broadcast the videos, by having the ability to run transcoding tasks on other computers. This makes hosting a PeerTube platform easier, more resilient and cheaper.
Other improvements include mouse-free navigation, RSS feeds for podcasts and documentation.
The @sovtechfund is offering grants to people who contribute to a sustainable open source ecosystem. Grants go up to €300,000 per application and cover three main topics:
With this program the Sovereign Tech Fund seeks to stimulate an open digital infrastructure: fundamental technologies that enable the creation of other software.
