So the heartbeat linux-ha package has not been kept up to date with python 3.x and been replaced by a MUCH more complicated thing. Are there any alternatives? All I need is: “here is two computers, one is a hot standby for the other, run a script when the primary goes away”. This literally needs three lines of config, and definitely NO XML yeeesh.

@thomasfuchs someone summed it up to me as “ssh keys for websites” and that makes a lot of sense, but any time I try to learn the bits and bobs it gets very confusing very quickly. And it doesn’t help that Apple, known for their polish, market this as easy when it clearly is not yet.
