@cwebber a global trans strike day would probably stop the internet, so we should maybe start planning that.

Had a git workflow epiphany this morning because it went (mildly) badly for the second or third time and I’m finally seeing the pattern:
Very early on in a project, when folder structure, naming conventions and little test-spike-code are all being tried out, a PR based workflow is worse because the nature of the changes will likely make the PRs long running, because lots has to be nailed down before it is “good”…

… but it will definitely make integrating all PRs take forever because they touch so much structure.
The alternative is everyone committing to main/trunk and forbidding force pushes. The trade-off is that everybody has to deal with everybody else’s changes, but it will be a net benefit because those integration decisions happen closer to the changes and and committers likely working time overlapping for out of band coordination.

This one I fully read. The best collection of time zone oddities that I’ve ever seen. The first three highlights are already very fun:
“- Asia/Kathmandu has a weird offset from UTC- Africa/Casablanca doesn’t fit into the timezone model cleanly, so it’s hard-coded
- America/Nuuk does daylight savings at -01:00 (yes, with a negative)”

@alexglow she’s just the best and personally the first comedian that made jokes that were 100% attuned to my brain. What a revelation in the 90s!
I’ve since seen her a couple of times, including the training sessions for the German show in front of 50 people.
And even met her once at a hotel breakfast after her show in Cardiff. Just the loveliest human.
I’m so glad you finally got to see her <3

It looks like as usual, something like this already exists, it’s just not accessible to newcomers: https://mast.solarisfire.com/@solarisfire/113492440324722556

I’m pondering how one would model starter packs on fedi.
I’m imagining an app you can log into with your fedi account that lets you a) create one or more lists of usernames with a theme b) browse all lists and follow lists made by others.
Would fedi culture suggest that accounts would want to opt-in before they can be added to a list, or would an opt-out be enough?

@tante right, that’s the important point. These things need to be integrated at the first point of contact (an app, or the main server web interface).

Reminder that the current Berlin city government is aiming for holding the Olympic Games in 1936 + 100 = 2036.
This is bad from every conceivable angle.

This is why I see the BlueSky lifetime as a grace period for fedi to get its act together. It’ll be a lot of work, we better start now. https://mastodon.social/@molily/113480811492965996

1MWh! 🤘☀️
We crossed the mark this morning with our 2kWh balcony solar plant (on top of the car port) plus 3.2kWh battery.
~147kWh were fed back into the grid, the rest we used directly.
Repeating almost everyone who’s going through this for the first time: this exceeds my expectations by ~30%.
