@mattl because at least the servers appear to be. I know the protocol is in the MIT license. Licensing isn’t the issue for me though.

@mattl I feel like Bluesky was a major let down. We already have decentralized social media (Fediverse), if anything we need to work on how to give it the reach of a Twitter. Bluesky is proprietary, and the protocol is under an MIT license, instead of being a web standard. I can’t help but see that Bluesky isn’t a benefit to anyone but itself. Ironic, considering it’s incorporated as a benefit corporation (which I normally support).

@mattl they have different series of galaxy phones, and in each series, they released like three a year.

@mattl I mean I’m here so I don’t love twitter or anything. But on balance it’s a better environment to speak without fear of reprisals. Also, they were losing about $4 million a day. At the very least, we should expect companies to be solvent.

@mattl The speech policy was very inconsistent and stifling. I felt that it created an atmosphere where you never knew what you could get banned for. It seems like people were getting warning letters, if not outright banned, too easily. How can I have a conversation and express myself honestly when I never know when an algorithm will come and slap me with a punishment that I can’t appeal?

@mattl right that’s you, I was talking about me. And since I don’t know what you didn’t like I couldn’t really comment. But the old regime was decidedly worse from my point of view.

@mattl yeah it’s $8 now I believe. I never really liked twitter, but liked the old regime much less.

@mattl I meant specifically why you paid for twitter blue before but don’t want to now. What changes has the new owner made that made you feel that way?

@mattl ?I bought it for less than $300, and sold mine for $2,500. I fought the last warehouse of them in Shenzhen and sold them all. I didn’t have to work for a year! No complaints. The power of the cult works.

@mattl I had that and a Lemote yeelong that a certain personality was promoting at the time. No one kept up with the repos and nothing would update/upgrade, it was a mess.

@mattl I’m far more interested in what rendering engine the distros use for the networked OS features. It’s not what you’re asking here but if we expanded the discussion a little I would be very curious.
