I have a creek that runs under the road and then through my property, usually its just beer cans but every once in a while something unique washes down thanks to littering dicks
@Citizen423@electronwarier I can't find the pic where I had the whole setup laid out on a table in the basement, but this gives you an idea of what the process looked like
@Citizen423@electronwarier I'm sure it depends on your store. we have 2 near here, one didn't even answer the phone, the other the dude definitely sounded like he knew what he was talking about. YMMV. Of course you can just do it yourself like I did, but it was an ordeal
@electronwarier@Citizen423 upon second reading, I realize I may have misunderstood your, I think, rhetorical question. you can still get those totally basic CD player type stereo decks, but it still requires dash mods and you'll lose all the integration with steering console controls. its a trap
@electronwarier@Citizen423 the touchscreen completely died. i could still control it for a while with the steering wheel buttons, but every few months the "don't look at the screen while driving" notice would pop up, and there was no way to close that without the touchscreen, so after that came up again it was bricked.
@electronwarier@Citizen423 yeah I think I had about $2k in the project, mostly for the radio itself and interface module, then a bit more in the replacement dash trim, obscure wire connectors and related tools. It definitely isn't a cheap thing to do
@electronwarier@Citizen423 I had no experience with such things and it was definitely not trivial and took me a few days worth of evenings and 3 or 4 phone calls to Crutchfield support. Next time I'd definitely do it through BB, apparently they price match and do the install for free if you buy from them
@PG_Kelly@SirRichard what model baofeng? I have UV-5RA and UV-S9X3 HTs and programmed them both fine on Linux with chirp. The programming cable could be your weak link here
@electronwarier@Citizen423 all integrations with the OBD-2 and steering console buttons still work as they did before or even better, except I lost my USB charging port in the lower center compartment. but what I gained made it absolutely worth it, would do it again in any new vehicle (but preferably let BB handle it next time)
@electronwarier@Citizen423 I have a 2018 truck, I tore out the entire center dash system and related modules including the OnStar (not because I wanted to, touchscreen died and the whole thing became unusable), replaced it with 3rd party interface modules and a new radio. So unless they have a deliberate separate tracker device in there, you can replace it all with any brand that you trust. I did it myself, but if you go through best buy they'll install for free with purchase
@verita84@Alphakilopapa while I was there and killing time at like 7am before work I grabbed a coffee at MacD's. When I left the store, a nice lady outside said she'd give me a BJ for $5 to buy a pint. I declined of course, but it was nice of her to offer
@Alphakilopapa I had to work in Detroit for a couple weeks back in ~2005. it was a shithole. just went back for the first time since, about 6 months ago and yep, still a shithole
@radraccoon have they considered the possibility that nobody knows who the hell "blue beetle" is? I'm not a comic book nerd but I'm more up to speed than most normal people on comic characters, and I haven't the slightest idea who that dork is
