Other than that, Tuta and Mailbox.org are two decent options but they're not great either. I wish there's more options out there but it's limited because Big Tech snuffed most of them out of business.

I wish I can tell you in terms of alternatives besides self-hosting but other than Tuta and Mailbox.org, there's sadly not many alternatives out there that are ethical.

With no functioning FAA in sight, things like this will happen more frequently I'm afraid.

I feel it's a lesson that people should follow but many sadly won't.
