Two things can be true: The #InternetArchive is a gem, a marvel, and its mission should be enshrined into law. I have given hundreds (maybe thousands) to the Archive over the years.
The Internet Archive fucked up, overstepped bounds, behaved rashly, and, in attempting to rectify the situation, resorted to tortured 'fair use' defenses that any reasonably intelligent person can see do not apply to this case. Because they really had no legal standing for their actions.
Essentially, the IA fucked around, and now it's found out.
@jesse_saenz@spurs The entire 'commentary' around this is, to my American ears, beyond bizarre. It suggests such a hollowness, emptiness, shallowness at the core of these "fans" that would be better served by counseling or therapy.
Domain name registrar suggestions please! I need to get off GoDaddy, which I only just realized shut down my domain name without warning (because I had an old credit card on file). No grace period, nothing. So, fuck those guys.
@taylorlorenz I'm reading EXTREMELY ONLINE, and wondering what your exposure was to the early web (1995-6-era), and particular the first 'extremely online' person that I knew, who was Justin Hall. There's a documentary about him, HOME PAGE, which does a decent job of communicating what it was like to be online in those early days... https://youtu.be/WvUzRbDCLBA
@dahukanna The #UXDesign hashtag gets some use. But I haven't found much of a community or discussion on Mastodon around design. And #DesignTwitter, well, yeah. Not that you asked, but the best discussions I read on experience design on social media are on.... LinkedIn.
