@p@freespeechextremist.com Fedi feels a lot more like Usenet or forums that I used to be on in the early 2000s. And I really like that aspect about it. The coolest thing, I think, is how it's basically little islands of communities and these communities can talk to one another; Despite usually being insular, periodically strangers or remote content will float by on the tides and you can discover new communities and make new friends. @Moon@shitposter.club

@alex@gleasonator.com I am starting to believe that federative technology will never become mainstream or adopted en mass. First and foremost, people don't "get it". It's simple, but I genuinely think most people either don't care or are otherwise too stupid to comprehend what is being said. Ergo, it's difficult to market.

Furthermore, even people who do fully understand it don't actually like the reality of a federated universe. They might like the idea of federation, but ultimately they just want a small, tightly-controlled community of like-minded individuals with spoon-fed content and heavy-handed moderation. The people who don't want that are usually of the other extreme: they don't want any moderation whatsoever. And most of those people are societal rejects and constitute a minority of users.

There are no normal people here.

As for me? I just want Misskey markdown to fucking work consistently.

@ins0mniak@freespeechextremist.com I mean, it doesn't bother me too much, it was mostly an observation. But, it is bothersome to have to have everything through an application that necessitates a smartphone or smart device. Of course, corporations love this because it means reduced overhead/expenses to them and simplifies their processes while also forcing customers into having accounts which are portals for marketing and tracking. Capital is going to work together to push this forward and make it increasingly difficult to not be apart of the system. It's just like how governments and financial institutions are going to make it increasingly more painful to use cash.

We're reaching a point in society where one will not be capable of achieving basic daily tasks without a smartphone. I went to get my hotel room key-card fixed since it had expired and the front desk was really pressuring me to use my smartphone as a digital key-card via the hotel's app and they were making it seem as though they were trying to move away from physical key-cards. I see contactless payment everywhere. I could easily imagine that in 10 years time everything goes to digital processes via smartphone or other "smart" device. And if you refuse to be apart of that system then you're simply out of luck.
