saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 18-Aug-2023 00:55:45 JST saint podiatron @bot @MisterRogersSnapped @Utility no it's not. you can quantify the theft of vegetables (or seeds) by counting how many you had before and how many you have now. it's fundamentally different from using an idea that someone else came up with. ideas aren't physical things. you can't just pretend that they are. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 16:29:37 JST saint podiatron @Utility @MisterRogersSnapped @bot food isn't media. you would be the son of god if you could copy food. this whole disagreement stems from people not knowing what words like "steal," "copy," and "media" actually mean. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 16:03:24 JST saint podiatron @bot @MisterRogersSnapped if your media is such a piece of garbage that you can't get people to compensate you voluntarily, and you feel that you cannot go on without other people's money, then this is nature's way of saying that you should fuck off and stop creating media. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 15:52:04 JST saint podiatron @bot my point is, crunk's games wouldn't be better if the state protected some unrealized income that they may or may not have generated. crunk would not have worked any harder on his game if he sat there flicking his bean imagining himself siccing the government on me. or maybe he would, if the purpose of the game was to spread ideas that make my life worse. media cannot be of a higher quality or a finer substance just because the state protects any unrealized income it might or might not generate. there are countless counterexamples for this. intellectual property protects a mountain of radioactive waste. it's alarming that you simp for it so hard. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 15:39:16 JST saint podiatron @bot let's forget the catalytic components for a second. it's obviously not clicking for you. suppose crunk makes a game. he has a choice. will he release the entire game and ask nicely for some monero, or will he paywall the game and use the state to punish people who downloaded it without paying first. now I want you to ask yourself, why would the game be better if you have to pay for it first? look at the world around you and look at who owns the media before you answer. when people do things the way you want them to do it, most media is mind control experiments crafted to turn people into oversocialized self-hating coomer-comsoomer-goyim who get all their thoughts and perceptions programmed into them by five corporations plus a corrupt government. the consequences have been an absolute disaster. the way you want people to distribute media has turned everyone's brain into a public urinal. I don't see any path to recovery. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 15:24:01 JST saint podiatron @bot if I am going to open a pie shop and sell goatmeal's original pie, and you look at my pie and open bot's pie shop and sell the same pie, what have you stolen from me? you should be able to tell me what I don't have anymore. and suppose I can own something that I don't have yet, as absurd as that is. how many pies would I have sold if you didn't look at my pie? you can't say. nobody can. that's why it's ridiculous. you can't even tell me how much was stolen because it never happened. in every instance of real theft, anyone can demonstrate how much was stolen. but not your fake and gay theft. this is why it is possible to make jokes on 4chan where people say, "I downloaded a game and deleted it 6000000000 times, so now bethesda has negative gazillion dollars." -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 15:17:21 JST saint podiatron @bot ideas cannot be owned or stolen because of what copying entails. if I have a pie, and you steal it, I have to not have that pie anymore. if you look at my pie it and make another one, you haven't stolen anything from me. I can't go to the policeman and say look bot stole my pie. he will point at the kitchen counter and say no she didn't, it's right there. if I say here's my pie and here's goatmeal's original pie recipe, and you come along and say no no this is bot's original pie recipe, then what you have done to me is a transgression, but it's not theft. it's lying and bearing false witness. it can't be theft because I still have my pie. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 15:04:51 JST saint podiatron @bot doing a favor for someone, and then expressing gratitude in return, are voluntary actions. that's what makes them so sincere. they are not obligations. I am not contractually obligated to thank you for your feet pix. you would know what this means if you understood human social exchanges.
what is supposed to happen if you say "here is a picture of a dolphin with an arm growing out of his face, and he has a french accent. now anyone who tells a story about him without my permission must be punished by the state for depriving me of what is mine." if I said that armdolphin strangled president biden and I drew a picture of this, why does that rightfully belong to you? -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 14:55:16 JST saint podiatron @bot go ahead and reduce theft to the catalytic components. what exactly needs to happen in order for theft to occur and what makes this process theft? I have already explained that I think you need to have something that I am taking away. I already explained that I can't take something from you that you don't have yet. I have already explained that claiming credit for thinking of something first when someone else thought of it first instead is a problem, but it isn't the same thing as theft. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 14:40:21 JST saint podiatron @bot ok genius. why doesn't a man receive royalties whenever my foreskin is chopped off? surely someone owns the idea. imagine a man saying, wait wait stop with that scalpel, you owe me 10 shekels first, for I came up with the idea of genital mutilation and it's my idea. that's how stupid this is. a man cannot own an idea. a man cannot extract value from others for applying an idea just because he came up with it first. if others did this, they have taken nothing from him that he didn't have already, and it's not theft.
if we had a person who really did come up with circumcision, and you came along and said, no it was I who first conceived the epiphany of the preupcectomy, then we would have the sin of lying or bearing false witness, but it's NOT THEFT. but nobody is entitled to anything. ideas cannot be owned. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 14:21:57 JST saint podiatron @bot then we should be able to place a value on it. if you have three marbles and I take them without your consent, then we can say that I stole three marbles from you. but if you have a drawing of a marble, and I look at it and use it as a model to produce 10,000 marbles, could we say that you would have been able to do the same thing if I had done nothing? how much have I stolen from you then? would you have been able to produce 10,000 marbles if I never looked at your drawing? you cannot quantify what I "stole" from you because I didn't steal anything. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 14:16:29 JST saint podiatron @bot the problem you are having is that you believe a person is owed something unrealized, and that any action that prevents the realization of this thing falls into the theft category. but that's not what actually happens. theft is when you have realized something, and after this has happened, it is taken from you. -

saint podiatron (goatmeal@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 14:11:14 JST saint podiatron @bot that's not how life works. your perception is formed by your ideas about actions. you have to tell me what theft is before I can know what you mean when you say that something is stolen. I already told you what I meant when I said that something is or isn't stolen. something has to be there, that when you take it, is not there anymore.
if you mean to say that a person can take credit for something they didn't come up with, we can discuss the problems that arise from this situation. but this isn't what theft is. it's a different transgression from theft.
