But I know some animals do seek out ticks as a treat, like guinea hens. But the downside to guinea hens are their God awful calls. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Jul-2023 13:01:34 JST Tapir I’m leaving.
If you’re looking to join the tapirverse, word of advice: don’t.
It’s just as bad as any form of 'herbivore’ social media except you can call ungulates “least-concern” or some variant and not get banned.
I find tapirverse a time wasting black hole, to put it quite simply. And my life goals have changed significantly over the past few months alone. I do not have any plans to kill the rain forest, Malayasiantap.ir will still be here.
The tapirverse was fun once, and then just stagnated into a constant circle of scratching one's head with their penis, inhaling one's farts underwater, silly faces, rhino-blaming, and proboscis-comparing to present a different narrative consistently.
Doesn’t help that many of the users on the tapirverse are genuinely even-toed and that number is growing by the day. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 26-Jun-2023 08:32:56 JST Tapir I had the 'Sunday Scaries' since I woke up at 6am today, haven't shaken them yet. Just like last fucking sunday, and the sunday before that.
Maybe this week I'll get in an accident with a commercial truck and I'll never have to work again. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 26-Jun-2023 08:32:55 JST Tapir @Eiregoat During my internship, me and a small group of classmates worked at a farm. I woke up at 5am, got home at 6pm, worked my ass off not only doing medical exams and procedures on the farm animals, but we had to clean and feed them as well. I remember laying down on the hookworm-infested field looking out at the goats that tried to head butt my ass when I would try to trim their mate's feet. I was exhausted, my limbs were like jelly and my coveralls were covered in dirt, shit, and sweat. But seeing the goats slowly browse the field with a steep mountain in the background and the sun threatening to set behind it after a hard day's work. I don't think I had ever been happier.
But you really can't make a living on farming these days, you have to basically be brought into it or know people. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 13-May-2023 22:03:09 JST Tapir @Zealist I stuck my hand in a cage and held onto a cat that bit me deep at least half a dozen times. I didn't let go because they were doing surgery in that room and I didn't want this cat to ruin the sterile field.
... except they had actually just closed the last dog 5 min ago and were done with surgery, I just thought they were still doing surgery in my head :aquacries: So I got bit for literally no reason -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 19-Sep-2022 11:51:49 JST Tapir I just want to say I have honestly not yet heard someone with more retarded views all shoved into one quick video. So let's break this down;
1) Heartworm medication
The reason heartworm medication works is that it kills 'baby' heartworms. When heartworms reach a certain age in your dog, that prevention no longer kills the heartworms and now you're left with a dangerous treatment that costs thousands of dollars, which I'm unsure how many times a dog can safely go though that treatment.
>that's really hard on your dog's body
Fucking source? It's just ivermectin. Unless she fell for that meme after people began using it for COVID lol
2) Prescription Kibble
Prescription kibbles are bad for dogs that do not need prescription kibble, as it will likely not meet that animal's nutrient requirements. However, it is quite literally the dog's saving grace oftentimes when they are on it, because there's no alternative for their medical condition.
>prescription kibble is the WORST thing
Again, based on what?
3) Flea/tick medication
Just flat out wrong on this - unless you buy your shit from Dollar General, most flea/tick medications actually does work fast enough to stop lyme disease. However, there's more than just lyme disease that ticks can give you... various bacteria like Bartonella, and other tick-borne disease like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. And again, the flea/tick meds also protect the humans from ticks as well, as they die off after latching onto the dog.
>it is so bad for the environment
I'm fairly certain she is pulling that out of her ass hoping everyone will be like 'oh yeah that makes sense' because it really doesnt.
4) Spay/neuter
ooohhh boy. There are many health reasons to spay/neuter and the fact that she pretends they never exist is beyond deluded. Pyometra, mammary tumors, prostate cancer just to name a few. To imply there is never a health related reason is just blatantly false.
5) Yearly vaccines
How funny because yearly vaccines (via purevax) is actually much safer for cats. And yeah it is likely your animal still has titters left from previous vaccinations, but to make sure you need to test those titters. $225 per titter test. For rabies, distemper, parvo, and hepatitis (we'll skip the less deadly ones) we're at $900 a year. Come on, you know that bitch isn't paying $1,800/year for her two dogs, let alone expect your fans to be doing this. And don't forget - just because your dog has good titters for rabies, does not mean it is safe if it bites someone and is not up to date. It can still have it's head taken off and tested for rabies.
All in all I think she's retarded, but her shit is clearly not based in reality that there is likely no amount of explanation that will get through to her. She's probably one of those 'crystals & energy healing' wingnuts. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 19-Sep-2022 11:51:48 JST Tapir @sjw It depends on the circumstance and lifestyle!
Your most cost-effective option is going to likely be a seresto collar; it's the ONLY flea/tick collar worth giving a fuck about. Pricey up front, but lasts 6-8 months. However you need to be absolutely sure you're buying a real seresto collar and not a chinese knock-off because the knock-offs not only don't work as well, they can be pretty harmful. If you have multiple dogs, you may not want to use collars because ingestion can be extremely dangerous.
If you're in a mosquito/heartworm heavy area, I really like to suggest Vectra 3D - It's pretty effective at repelling mosquitos, and it also kills ticks before they have a chance to even transmit anaplasmosis (that's a more northern tick-borne illness).
If you're a busy person, or maybe you don't trust yourself to give medications on a monthly basis, or you just find that to be a chore, you may want to look into Bravecto which is a topical medication given once every 3 months. It also can treat sarcoptic mange.
On that note, if your dog has issues with demodex mange, nexguard is used off-label for that treatment, as well as a monthly flea/tick preventative. It's a chewable, but the company will give you your money back if your dog doesn't eat them or throws them up.
I would advise against Frontline and really any product using fipronil if you live in the southeast - it only kills once stage of flea and as such, some places has seen a resistance to them.
If you have a god awful flea problem, Capstar is where to go. The issue with capstar though is it will only kill the fleas on your animal within the next roughly 24 hours. So its not a prevention, and more fleas will hop right on. But if you have an animal that is covered in fleas, you can provide some near instant relief until the flea/tick meds kick in. -

Tapir (tepid_tapir@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 19-Sep-2022 03:14:54 JST Tapir I was going to effortpost but I am so fucking exhausted. So I will just really nicely ask yall to calorie count for your animal's food and not let them get morbidly obese. It's incredibly unhealthy and will lead to an early death.
Thank you, and have a good night -
