@BeAware@gaberivera@threads.net Huh, I forgot you can even block too. Now I see that's possible. Yeah, I think it's overstated, and overall misleading. That said, if I understand things correctly, Threads will notify you when someone links to your post (because their post becomes a quote post of the linked post.) And Threads shows you who likes of course (which is still missing for fediverse posts from Threads?) So there's arguably more...control/visibility still?
Please forgive the decentralization foul, but I've been doing some posting on the Fediverse instance known as "Threads", and my profile there is @gaberivera@threads.net
People ask "Why are journalists still on Twitter?!", and while I get there are many reasons to avoid Twitter, the drawbacks of the would-be Twitters for news watchers and commentators are numerous and significant. Here's a chart I made to detail what they are. Tell me what's wrong in my chart! And hoping Mastodon and other contenders can turn more red to green!
Good news for people at the intersection of "uses Techmeme" and "uses Mastodon":
Hover over any headline at http://www.techmeme.com/ and a Mastodon icon will appear. If you click it, you arrive at the corresponding Mastodon post, where you can boost, or reply, or whatever.
Hi, just a quick note that if you have a pithy Mastodon post that provides good commentary on news that's on Techmeme, you can request that Techmeme add it using this form: https://techmeme.com/tip
Put your Mastodon post URL in the first box, and the URL of the post already on Techmeme in the second box.
Starting today, @Techmeme and @Mediagazer editors are now seeing @-mentions you make here, via Mastodon's notifications API. So if you want to tip us on a news link, or have excellent, pithy commentary, add @Techmeme to the end of your post and we may act on it. (We won't reply directly, but we'll see it!) We'll also see replies to our posts, since replies are @-mentions too!
