@avadeaux I guess it's part of established American-English-leftist jargon to use the word "labor" metonymically, aiming at either "organized labor" or "the living conditions of workers". I also find that jargon a bit stupid.
The number of sabotage actions within #Russia and occupied Crimea seems to have risen sharply in May. Since the beginning of the year, there were at least 57 successful attempts to sabotage railways, Defense Ministry facilities and energy facilities. Almost 25% of them took place in just 13 days in May, according to calculations by Вёрстка (verstka.media).
I know about many European books written about Chinese society. But what about recent Chinese books about European society? I've been trying to find some kind of overview about that, maybe an academic article, but the broad topic makes it hard to fing through search enginenes. Please tell me where to look if you know!
Background: Mikhail Lobanov is a left-wing politician, labor & student rights activist, Kremlin's critic, and mathematician. In 2021, when he ran for the State Duma, it's widely believed that his victory was stolen through fraud with online voting.
Lobanov has campaigned on behalf of political prisoners and condemned the invasion of Ukraine. In 2022, police arrested him for an anti-war protest, searched his home, and twice jailed him for 15 days. 2/
There will also be a memorial for Russian anarchist revolutionary internationalist Dmitriy "Dima" Petrov, Finbar Cafferkey from Ireland and Andrew Cooper from USA who fell defending against far-right authoritarian Putin's imperialist aggression in Ukraine, at the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument in Warsaw, Poland, on May 14 at 14:00, organized by Belarusian anarchists in Warsaw.
@chowderman What makes you assume that Greg Yudin (a leftist anti-nationalist) would reason in terms of "brother nations"? That sounds a bit far-fetched.
@Renegade_GDI Yeah, on a very general level i think the formation of these groups must be understood as a kind of opportunistic self-defence against centralized empires and their absurd borders, i.e. in the context of what James C. Scott calls "The Golden Age of Barbarians".
This indigenous alliance seems only to include minorities within the Western half of Russian Federation: Karelia, Volga, Ural and Caucasus. The whole of Siberia is absent!
Still, the list of nationalities encompasses a linguistic diversity of not only Turkic, Finno-Ugric and Caucasian languages but also Slavic dialects close to Ukrainian (Baláchka) or Russian (Pomor).
These were the separatist groups signing the press release (written in Russian) from yesterday's conference in Istanbul:
* World Chechen Congress * Caucasian Union * Karelian National Movement * Chuvash-Volga-Bulgarian Diplomatic Council * Government of Tatarstan in exile * Council of United Circassia * Cossack national liberation movement "Ѣзиковъй Ѣртаул " * Kuban Conservative Movement "Січова Братія"" * Supreme Council of the Nogai People * Dagestan National Center * Free Bjarmia/Pomorie * Pomorska Sloboda * International organization "Free Circassia" * Public organization "Strong Azerbaijan" * Circassian congress * Round table - Free Caucasus
It should be noted that some (but not all) of these groups are far-right or openly racist.
