1000+ pages is definitely intimidating!

I’m continuing my year recap with the books that made me struggle the most. In terms of Japanese level alone, it has to be:
- 無惨 by Ruiko Kuroiwa (黒岩涙香).But more generally speaking, the two most difficult books I read this year were without a doubt:
- 写楽殺人事件 and 北斎殺人事件 by Katsuhiko Takahashi (高橋克彦).Even though I want to finish the trilogy, I still haven’t found the courage to start 広重殺人事件… Hoping and waiting for a translation!

I also have a couple books I want to read, but I still haven’t started them because they’re super long (though I know they’ll probably be easy to read). For both, it’s been years now since I bought them 😅. -

Inhae (inhae@mindly.social)'s status on Friday, 03-Nov-2023 09:58:28 JST Inhae I’ve reached the last chapter of both my Japanese and Korean novels! They are both engrossing reads, so I’m a bit sad to reach the end already.
Let’s see if I can finish them today 📚! (Or at least one of them…)
(The bookmark is an illustration by Luis Mendo, there was an exhibition this year in Seoul).

Even though I knew the word スト, it took me a while to understand ゼネスト the first time I saw it. -

Inhae (inhae@mindly.social)'s status on Saturday, 04-Feb-2023 18:20:49 JST Inhae I learnt an interesting word yesterday! It’s 鯖缶 (canned mackerel).
鯖 (さば-saba) ”mackerel” stands for サーバー “server”.
缶 (かん-kan) “can” stands for 管理者 (かんりしゃ) “administrator”.
So in the context of Mastodon, 鯖缶 is a server admin :)

Have this lucky rabbit, hope it brings you happiness and good fortune. (It’s inspired by a giant rabbit that was installed on Gwanghwamun Square for the Seoul Lantern Festival).복 (福) “bok”: good fortune, happiness, luck.

I also tried to put a box on my desk, but no… it’s always the keyboard! -

This is a collection of stories set in a small coal mine town in Hokkaido. Most young people have left the town, the population is ageing, public service lacking… but those who stayed are always there for each other!
These heartwarming stories made me feel close to the characters and part of their community.
