In Missouri transgender surgery for minors was essentially ended with a simple change:
Extending the statute of limitations for suing for malpractice for minors undergoing gender-affirming care, from 2 years to
> within fifteen years of the individual injured attaining the age of twenty-one or of the date the treatment of the injury at issue in the action by the defendant has ceased, whichever is later.
(Lindsay got the numbers a bit wrong, but still in the ballpark. I autistically went and found the bill itself to verify (https://www.senate.mo.gov/23info/pdf-bill/tat/SB49.pdf). He incorrectly said 20 years after reaching 20 years old. I think other states doing similar legislation might be like that)
This is an amazing idea. It really calls their bluff about it being real medicine instead of a political zeitgeist designed to abuse trans people by leaving them holding the bags for the decision pushed on them without informed consent.
@thendrix Imagine being led into transitioning at 16 by your insane parents, and by the time you can legally legally sue at 18, the statute of limitations is over, and you're left holding the bags for the rest of your life for the bill of goods your parents were sold.
I feel really bad for trans people. They're actually very oppressed, just from the opposite direction to what the narrative is.
@lain wow, if the state doesn't make mistakes, then everything should be inside it! nothing should be outside of it! and nothing should be against it! *Dr. Strangelove arm spasm*
"Welcome to Itchy & Scratchy Land, where nothing can possibligh go wrong... Possibly go wrong. That's... the first thing that's ever gone wrong."
@All_bonesJones@icedquinn@Moon@ic3l9@teratology I still like it's the Smith Mundt Modernization Act of 2012, which lifted the post-WWII prohibition for the government to propagandize US citizens. That's the same year the word "woke" appeared. It was not in use before then. Suddenly all the postmodern feminist racist university scholarship rot that was collecting dust got huge money and went mainstream. Suddenly being color-blind was the new racism, and quotas and seeing people as their skin-color was the new "anti-racism". This accelerated after the 2016 election with an "all hands on deck" meeting of tech CEOs to make sure 2016 never ever happens again. Then the "shadow campaign that saved the 2020 election". [The Current Thing].
I do think Woke was created by glowies for divide-and-rule by race. Intersectionality is the ultimate wedge issue that can subdivide groups against themselves infinitely, and keep everyone extremely angry and afraid and divided all the time.
@ic3l9@Moon@icedquinn@teratology lol just make sure no one does bad things on the internet while calling themselves a "gamer". It's not a novel concept. Nobody even tried.
If only those goobergrapes policed the entire internet and made sure every "gamer" behaved in a dignified manor. Why didn't they???
Why didn't "gamers" just trademark the term and sue anyone who abused it?
>is a billion times worse than Yeah, I know they think "It's okay when we do it".
> in a hit piece meant to boost morale. Really? Do you think the purpose of hit pieces is the "boost morale"? Tell me more.
You know you're being a disingenuous piece of shit.
@thendrix@icedquinn@nep@NEETzsche@Moon@ageha the GOP isn't particularly "white", and both immigrants and latinos are demographically conservative. The illegal aliens who support the DNC are doing so for the promise of amnesty. A promise that the DNC will never give them, because if they did, those now-citizens would become a mostly conservative base.
I disagree with the notion that illegal immigration is about "importing voters", because if amnesty were granted, those people would no longer be beholden to the DNC and would vote conservative (not all, but on average).
The goal is to have them support the DNC because of the promise, but never to give it to them. Also slave-labor and child-prostitution and gangs to weaponize.
@icedquinn@nep@NEETzsche@Moon@ageha I know they're tired of it, but they're terrified of their own side, and are like hostages with Stockholm Syndrome.
They've also had it so beaten into them that the other side is literally mega-hitler-satan that they can never admit that the other side had any humanity at all. It would require admitting an emotionally impossible amount of shit.
I think they're just exhausted and full of cognitive dissonance and are going to drop out of politics or go to a third party.
For liberals, their party was conquered from within by anti-liberal woke socialists and gangsterized glowies. They're sitting on the stoop after being evicted out of their own house.
@NEETzsche@icedquinn@nep@Moon@ageha I'd argue that it's people at the very top who are the type of rich person to give a homeless person a gun and pay them to commit a felony, knowing the homeless person will end up dead. Or more to current year, illegal immigrant gang members are used as disposable assassins.
Actual bottom-poor people don't have the bandwidth to care about politics. It's the super-rich, and their trust-fund kids who pretend to be poor because it's cool.
@Moon@ic3l9@icedquinn@teratology and those people speak for themselves, not for "gamers". I'm trying to say that real people with real jobs at real companies making real money with their actions, lying about groups of people, is not comparable to anons going on the internet and telling lies.
The journos desperately need those two things (professionals lying and anons lying) to be equally valued, to create a "well both sides did bad things so it cancels out". If those things aren't equivalent, then they're assholes.
@Moon people use it as a "stablecoin", and it's not worth 1:1 with the dollar, because it's not backed. It's worse than the dollar because it's fiat and doesn't have a nation and military behind it. When about 20% of people sell their tether, it will suddenly drop to zero value, because the 1:1 is "because we said so" fiat.
@Moon when something becomes a bandwagon, all the dumb money arrives, and the scammers shortly thereafter to take it. The bad money drives out the good, and by the time the dumb money stops flowing, a lot of damage has been done, that takes a long time to heal. The scammers set up camp waiting for more dumb money, and crowd out the honest, and make the space look like a shitshow.
Now I know there have been crypto scammers for about as long as there has been crypto, but it's a matter of proportion.
I was looking at prices and seeing that Bitcoin Cash didn't have the same increase that Bitcoin has, and I thought what's that asshole Roger Ver up to? In my opinion, he represents part of the scammer category. From wiki:
>As of June 2022, he is a shareholder in CoinFLEX, a centralized yield crypto exchange and is rumoured to be in a large amount of debt which is causing problems for the site.
@Moon since we're in ATH territory, I would recommend people NOT buy crypto right now. The dumb money will flow, and bubbles will pop. I'm not looking forward to when Tether pops, which I'm convinced is an enormous ponzi. From wiki:
>Tether has been criticized for a lack of transparency and verifiability of its claimed fiat reserves. In 2021, the company was fined by regulators for only maintaining full reserves during 27.6% of the days in the period from 2016 to 2018[4] as well as for failing to present audits showing sufficient asset reserves.[5][6][7]
>It is the largest cryptocurrency in terms of trading volume, commanding 64% of the market share among stablecoins and having surpassed Bitcoin in 2019 to become the most traded cryptocurrency in the world.[8][9][10] As of March 2024, Tether had over $100 billion in circulation, leading to concerns about it being a systemic risk for cryptocurrency markets and threatening the stability of wider financial markets.[11][12][13]
@icedquinn@Moon@ic3l9@teratology I've never heard of most of that stuff, and I don't think there needs to be a government connection. I'd be somewhat surprised if there was one, other than something like it being a test to see how far people can be pushed.
>to just running denial and counter-accusation game The culture and philosophy that they're coming from is similar though, and I've thought that the same dynamic that occurred in gamergate has repeated many times since then, without any explicit relation, in the Woke and ESG shit.
The very soviet "everything is perfect and we are perfect and never make any mistakes ever and you are the evil enemy and must be destroyed for even suggesting the notion that anything is wrong." It's like narcissistic abuser dynamic writ large. Any valid criticism, no matter how minor, is treated as "hate", especially shoehorned into an idpol "you just hate women and minorities" way.
And they take as many as will fall for it with them as they go over the cliff, like it's a giant ponzi scheme. FTX is a literal ponzi example of this, complete with "effective altruism".
The videogame industry is currently going over that cliff, and I'll be genuinely interested to see if Activision/Blizzard get bought by Tencent, because I do have a tinfoil hat theory that China is pushing woke in industry so that it can crash and be bought up cheaply by Tencent, who will then go anti-woke but pro-CCP-censorship with them, because Woke is the gift you give to an organization that you want to die.
