1) I was amazed by the positive energy of many attendees, and their dedication to create a new, open network. Especially @aendra.com and her ideas for monetization on Bluesky, Sebastian Vogelsang and his Instagram-Feed impressed me.
@amd Much more solid than when I tried a few months ago. There are a few glitches still (the big one for me is around clipboard behavior across apps), but it is 90% there, and already a better experience than my other setups. And lightning fast.
@steveediger Thanks for considering it! Good question. Here's largely what my involvement consisted of, though members could change their own expectations:
- Quarterly hour-long meetings to review the finances and surface any issues - Occasional approval of payments on Open Collective - Occasional focused efforts, like drafting an annual budget, passing proposals with the membership, etc.
It's a great way to get a sense for how the co-op works.
I'm really looking forward to this upcoming Metagov seminar and zine-release party, led by @daspitzberg: "What Are Meetings?" Join us! https://lu.ma/291lt7pf
#Socialcoop friends: who has never been on a working group in our community and would like to try? I'm leaving the Finance Working Group after being on it basically from the start. We need some new energy and new ideas. Is that something you can offer?
I just gave in and loaded @system76's COSMIC desktop environment on my office machine, a S76 Thelio. It has come such a long way. At least so far (though it is alpha and there are some glitches) it is the most pleasurable desktop UX I've ever experienced.
Super cis perspective here, but I've come to find optional pronoun marking to be a really useful form of quasi-universal design—once again, a gift in which the struggles led by marginalized communities make life better for everyone. Quite often one just really can't assume to know someone's pronouns, especially if their name is from a different culture from yours or (like many names) is nonbinary. It never hurts to get some extra information.
