I read a piece about the "epidemic of loneliness" apparently sweeping people my age and I have thoughts.

I accept that making and staying in touch with friends doesn't come as easy in this part of life as it did when I was younger. But there's something to be said for solitude, also.

Real talk: After 25 years, I've pretty much given up on a career in tech journalism.

It's no secret that journalism, in general, is an apocalyptic wasteland. It has nothing to do with AI, and everything to do with compounding lousy publishing business decisions that go back to the dawn of the public Internet.

I don't think I've ever identified more with someone else's pet.

On one hand, Apple presents Apple Intelligence as a way to reduce the friction we experience from information overload - it knows who your mom is, when she's flying into town, what your plans are. It can make your emails sound better. Gives you more creative ways to express yourself with generated emoji.

On the other hand, the problem that's been presented is fundamentally one Apple and other tech companies created for us.
