Well, if nothing else, Cory Booker beat Strom Thurmond's record for the longest filibuster in Senate history.

With, probably, about as much lasting impact.

Thurmond, despite his best efforts, couldn't stop tje Civil Rights Act from being passed into law - literally two hours after he gave up the dais.

Sadly, Booker's filibuster will probably have about the same lasting effect.

These days I am absolutely haunted by a moment that happened to me in seventh grade, back in the 1980s.

Our Western Civilization teacher (a conservative who was still railing against the Soviet menace) had us deep in a module on Stalin's brutal crackdowns when he paused for a long moment and said:

"You know, as long as you're on the side of the fascists, fascism is absolutely the best form of government to live under. The problem is that no one stays on their side for long."

Quirk Kia of Braintree, Massachusetts uses some of the most aggressive car sales marketing I've seen.

They've even spammed SMS messages to me to encourage me to...trade in a car I haven't owned in two years.

I could complain to them, but first of all, I owe them absolutely no dialogue. I'm not their customer, never have been.

Today this happened near where I work. It is very important to understand how big this crowd was: Multiple orders of magnitude bigger than candidate Trump's acolytes attracted to the same location, during the campaign. And a lot of the cars that drove by were honking in solidarity with them.

The message I want to get across to both my fellow Americans and to those abroad: Many of us are very fucking angry about what's happening.
