Dear US people: pretty soon, the only way to get accurate information about your own country will be to use illegal means (*cough cough* torrent *cough*) and/or to get it from the outside of the USA (Canada, Europe, others).

    Plan accordingly.

Also: make plans to backup important data you have outside of the US.

    Just sayin'

That is a pretty bad take.

    Here is why:

NATO has a 40+ year history of standardization, interoperability, and especially joint exercises+ operations. It trains people to work together. That's what it does all the time, year in and year out.

Its standards go from ammunition & tires to NBC training & cyber security. Throwing all of that away would be an incredible waste of time and money. Even the EU is aligned with NATO in that respect.

Why throw away 40 years of work?

The structure is in place. The Canadians are still on board. If the EU has any sense, it will keep NATO alive, just to piss off the orange monkey.

Remember the millionaire who thought it was a great idea to apply the (stupid) "move fast and break things" to submarine design and ended up at the bottom of the ocean?

He had no real idea on how to build a deep-sea submarine. But he was a really smart millionaire, so what could possibly go wrong, right?

Now compare and contrast with people trying to build "AI". Except, of course that all those idiots are not going to blow up in the middle of the sea, they are going to implode the economy.

Precisely: they outsource the moderation they should be doing to the rest of the Fediverse.

I mean, it is not rocket science: if a new user comes with a name like MAGAdolf88, BigTitties4You or Learn2TradeBitcoin you can probably figure out these guys are going to SPAM.

And yet, this is exactly the kind of users we see from mastodon.social every single day.

The number of spam received from amazonses.com is completely redonkulous.

Fortunately, stuff like the following line is enough to reject the mail:

The bad news about #opensuse is that applying these updates is so slooooooooooooow...

You should know that #OpenBSD has released patch 005 for OpenBSD 7.8, which deals with an OpenSTMPD issue:

    https://www.openbsd.org/errata78.html

If you are running OpenSMTPD on anything other than OpenBSD, you are probably also affected, and you should update as well.

The discussion around this is very interesting, as it seems there are other bugs & memory leaks that have been left unpatched - so more patches could be released in the near future:

It's up to us, today, to strip the (very thin) veneer of respectability and "free enterprise" off this ugly reality. Decentralization is one thing, but another point is to stop being a consumer.

During the recent protests in the US, 7 million people took to the street to protest against the current regime.

If only 20%, 25%, 50% of those 7 million decided to boycott high tech companies that support Trump and the Nazis Republican party, the effect would be visible on their bottom lines.

You simply have to replace cybernetics by "AI" to see that this criticism is still correct and represents the wet dreams of many billionaires tech bros out there.

Replace human beings, in all their infuriating complexity, by predictable obedient machines.

And there we are, surrounded by fascistic technologies that will be used against us, exactly like IBM tabulating machines were used by the Nazis in their orgy of murders.

The one thing I am trying to say is that it is time to stop being a consumer, stop supporting the fascists that disregard all of humanity and cut them down to size.

And boycotting is the easiest, simplest way to do it. The one thing we have and that the oligarchs still need is money. And we have, collectively, a lot of money. And we can refuse to give them that money.

This is simple, effective, and it is one thing they are terrified of: boycott.

Since you are reading this on the Fediverse, I suspect you already have a healthy disrespect for these collaborators with Nazism. But it's time to push - HARD - against them.

Stop being a consumer, start being an actor.

Think about what happened when Jimmy Kimmel (that obnoxious gasbag) was cancelled: Disney/ABC boycott. The guy was back on his show soon enough.

So... Delete your Facebook account, stop buying the latest Mac or iPhone, move your email from Gmail to a smaller provider, cancel your Amazon prime subscription and make sure you let them know why. Of course this is not limited to the GAFAM: feel free to add other major companies to that list.

I mean, this rings painfully true even today:

"Cybernetics clearly reflects one of the basic features of the bourgeois worldviewโ€”its inhumanity, striving to transform workers into an extension of the machine, into a tool of production, and an instrument of war. At the same time, for cybernetics an imperialistic utopia is characteristicโ€”replacing living, thinking man, fighting for his interests, by a machine, both in industry and in war."

The sad truth is, computers have always been fascist technology.

IBM helped the Nazis organize and tally the Holocaust.

Early computers were used for weapon calculations, from artillery to missiles to nuclear weapons, etc.

The web was used at first as a way to disseminate information (CERN) but quickly mutated into the ungodly spawn of Edward Bernays public influence and Jeremy Bentham panopticon (Google, NSA).

It brings to mind the Soviet critique of US cybernetics.
