Not to mention "rules of engagement" are there for a simple reason: reciprocity.

Don't respect minimal conduct? Things like warning shots? Don't expect your enemies to respect them either.

This is how you end up bombing fishing boats with no warning just because someone suspects they may be drug smugglers.

Right now, the US fascism is ascendant, perhaps even triumphant. After the civil war, or at least the purge of the MAGA, I think a new US government may well seek re-engagement with the international community by delivering war criminals to the ICC for judgment.

Sounds far fetched? Today, yes, but a lot can happen, and perhaps even faster than we think.

Bought "The Devils" by Joe Abercrombie in London. Huge book.

Already at page 35, and oh boy, I am hooked! Think dark adult fantasy, set in a parallel universe of a nightmarish medieval Europe.

One in which the elves are definitely NOT the good guys...

Oh, and it has vampires too. I love it.

Finished the book, and Cthulhu it is great!

Imagine a world parallel to ours, mired in the Middle Ages, around the time of the great schism between Rome and Constantinople (except it's not exactly those same cities).

The Holy Church (something something not Catholic, but, hey, just as oppressive and nasty, complete with Holy Inquisition) is convinced they have found the rightful heir to the throne of the Eastern Empire. And they put together a team of expandables to take her back home...

Just with a partial address, the guy figured out where we were going, and that there was a good chance the address was a university residence. Correct on both counts.

Even gave us a rough estimate of the time needed to get there, which also proved correct.
