Remember the Satanic Panic? That’s when people were put on trial for crimes that not only didn’t happen but which were impossible to happen.

Some were exonerated, others were sentenced to prison. Some served time, some died in prison, some are there still.

Remember, at the time, how effective logic and evidence were as counter-arguments?

Remember, after it ended, how many of the people behind the Satanic Panic were held accountable?

I sure remember.

I've been using fediverse daily since December 2018. I have my share of accounts that I have muted. Just now I downloaded that list of muted accounts and wrote a little script to see which ones were still online. Very few of them, relative to how many were on the list.

The answer for me as an individual is that if I'd just ignored them, not even bothered to mute them, they would have stopped appearing in my feed anyway.

It wasn't wrong to mute them, nor was it the only means to not see them.

The Church of the SubGenius can neither confirm nor deny that the missing F-35 aircraft is safely within our private compound.

@eris For some, the purpose of a block list is to demonstrate who has the power to add an instance to a blocklist.

I am entirely in favor of any individual or any instance blocking any individual or any instance for any reason or for no reason, as a personal choice or in following a block list, either privately or publicly, without exception.

It might be beneficial if block lists were reviewed on occasion, to confirm that they match the desired intent of the individual or instance who blocks.

In my five years of serving as Your Mayor of https://Dobbs.Town, I have seen our citizens make fun of the soul, Jesus, Mohamed, Moses, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, atheism, Heaven, Hell, democracy, communism, fascism, truth, America, women, men, children, sexual orientations and behaviors, weirdos, and much more.

NOTHING has generated as many complaints as when someone made fun of Twitter. Not even close.

During the Satanic Panic, families were torn apart, businesses destroyed and men & women sent to prison. Some died in prison, for crimes they did not commit.

After the Satanic Panic, those journalists, medical professionals and politicians who promoted it were held accountable. Some were fined, most lost their careers, a few went to prison. And like it or not, some got street justice.

HA HA just kidding. Nobody is ever held responsible after a moral panic. We just move on to the next one.
