So much casual hatred of men and masculinity on this platform. Unrelated: anybody knows where all our trans masc friends are?

I know, there is a lot of masculinity trauma out there, we do live in a patriarchy after all. But I'm trying to heal, and finding myself in a bubble that virtuously embraces its trauma is not helping towards that goal.

The counter to toxic masculinity is healthy masculinity, not toxic antimasculinity.

Now tell me again that ActivityPub is bad because every server fetches link previews on its own. (If a couple thousands of requests can DoS your web server, then frankly that's your server's problem)

@Codeberg @schaueho FWIW, in Nixpkgs the release managers sometimes have to ping more people than GitHub allows and then have to split it up into multiple comments and hope nobody slipped

Endermen aren't evil, they just have ADHD! They pick up random blocks near them because they find them interesting, wander around aimlessly while fidgeting and then drop them again when they find a new shiny block somewhere else.

(They're also autistic and don't like being wet for sensory reasons, and they don't like eye contact)

My takeaway from today's election results: the left-leaning parties mostly do a shit job at convincing voters, and often times are too distracted with infighting.

@samueldr This traces back to my main and most fundamental issue with Matrix design: IMO they federated the wrong thing.
Rooms should not be federated, but identities should be.

Matrix once again is not able to actually do the one thing it ought to do as an instant messenger, quickly and reliably transmit messages.

I know that this is a matrix.org failure this time and I really should move off that server, but on the other hand my motivation for self hosting that pile of misery is not increasing with each of these incidents. Doesn't help that the migration story is still pretty much non existent

Every time I do tech support for my family I get very angry about people who whine about lacking "tech literacy".

90% of the stuff I have to teach them is how to navigate manipulative software and dark patterns. This has nothing to do with tech, but with capitalism. Tech is not complicated, it is just made maximally confusing on purpose to remove agency.

Better tech ed won't fix this.

@scvalex @fasterthanlime wow, this is evil. Even knowing what to look for, it took me several attempts to spot it. (Side note: I would likely have no difficulties spotting this with GitHub's diff rendering. Good UI matters.)

I want to do my part in making this place a bit less hostile towards minors. Therefore:

– Always CW lewd and NSFW content, *regardless of account, post visibility or instance*.
– Don't put a generic "minors DNI" (or equivalent) on your main account. Per-post CWs are much less hostile instead. Dedicated alt accounts are an option too.

I'll slowly start to unfollow and make people unfollow me who violate the second point. (I already block people who violate the first point on sight.)
