      Quoting @Codeberg :
"We will not be discouraged in our fight against far-right ideologies. They are currently on the rise in many parts of the world, and we believe it is important to protect all kinds of marginalized groups. However, if you believe this does not affect your project, you are wrong. Far-right forces pose a threat to all of us."
Thank you, statements like this reaffirm my decision to become a paying supporter or yours. ❤️

@Codeberg Props on taking a stand on this.

One thing I'd like to suggest is that any functionality that can be used for unsolicited contact with other users, especially mass contact (e.g. @'ing accounts in comments) should be heavily rate-controlled, limited to a small number per day (or per unit of moderation latency) and possibly even held for moderation entirely for new accounts without good repuration/standing except when @'ing someone who's already working on one of their own repos.

@badushka There was a spam campaign targeting repositories containing information for marginalized folk with slurs. They tagged many accounts so as to cause as much disruption as possible, and the issues/comments they left were sent to peoples' email inboxes as email notifications.

Please excuse the brevity, there is a _lot_ happening right now. ~n

@dalias @Codeberg Yeah, agreed. Reputation systems or even basic social graph adjacency checks (“Have these users interacted before? Have both of these users interacted with the same repositories before? Do these users have overlapping organization memberships?”, etc.) have performance costs, and can be tricky to balance, but are well worth it. Would actually be a really neat case study to show how to add that sort of protection to an existing code base.

@piegames @Codeberg @schaueho Reminds me that gentoo PRs seems to be using some kind of project groups like @gentoo/video but I'm not entirely sure if it's still wired up (not a gentoo dev), but would probably be a good idea to have some kind of project (sub)groups as a way to avoid needing mass-mentions, which are a quite typical vector for spam.

@Codeberg @schaueho FWIW, in Nixpkgs the release managers sometimes have to ping more people than GitHub allows and then have to split it up into multiple comments and hope nobody slipped

@schaueho Yes, we'll likely limit this. Implementation seems to be a little more tricky, though, based on a first glance.

@Codeberg One additional idea for fighting the problem: I don't think there should ever be a need to mention 100 users in any comment / commit / issue / whatever.

      @normplum
We have learned that nuances between far-right and right-wing differ a lot between culture and country. However, one thing is clear: We won't tolerate discrimination of any kind. And most arguments I have read today that say "right-wing is an acceptable position" argue for parties that are involved in discrimination of trans humans and immigrants, and spread an idea of women from the terrible past.

It doesn't matter how it is called. It's clear what we don't want.

@lunduke @Codeberg The #Codeberg article starts off talking about "far-right forces", but ends with "the fight against right-wing forces".

So are you fighting against just the far/extreme-right, or anyone on the right side of the political spectrum?

Not all right-wing supporters are evil and need to be "fought". Not all of them post horrible things online or spam/troll people. Some just have different views to those on the left, so I hope they're not on the receiving end of your "fight".

@Codeberg What led you to believe that these "spam attacks" were from "Far Right Forces"?

Any concerns that some of the anti-Right statements in your blog post will divide your user base?

Could we take this blog as a demonstration by Codeberg of its political leanings? Or could we trust Codeberg to maintain its normal service and order while remaining neutral in non FOSS-related matters?
I hope Codeberg can guarantee that they will be as committed to maintaining the integrity and order of the service as they are now when users are harassed and attacked from the far left, rather than treating their harassment as a demonstration of beneficial righteous activism.
