I'm aware of some AI generated #alttext on fedi, and I guess its better than nothing? But it is surprisingly common how often it misdescribes what's actually in the pictured. 😬🤷♀️

@vaurora this bit is a thing I certainly agree on, not so sure about your steps in (2), but don't think it matters much. We don't have societies at large doing these things anyway and the big ones don't even care so any impact is insignificant.

There's other ways of surviving though than energy competition.

But if you want to actually have impact you need to stop the people who don't care, one way or the other.

@drewdevault there's two things that are of concern for me.. 1) as I understand its still a commercial? Model. This has inherent issues which makes me worried.
2) too big to fail and flagship issues. To many people in one place, gives a lot if power to the platform owner and to little to the community.

These are reasons why I'm not jumping in any wagons.

@tokyobybike ddg is a privacy enhancing front end for bing. They're still bing results, but your personal data doesn't get shared with bing. It's pretty much the case with all alternative "search engines", they'll be a front for one of the big players. It's sad, but still a benefit.
