@Infoseepage Then I think you meant too say you have no confidence in the procedural controle in place, instead of suggesting there aren't any - and I would agree. That seems like nitpicking, but the difference matters, of course. A standard reaction to the first, would be: nonsense, that's incorrect (and possibly a lost follower), while the last post, including the reasoning behind it, is actually convincing. Apologies if you find this annoying, #philosopher here.
@futurebird@medley56@wmd@alexwild Yeah, that is a fear I share. Especially if the real research remains behind paywalls, and the fake ones will obviously be open access. Guess which ones will be shared more. Try fighting fake news then.. I guess, as bad as it is, it is one more argument to make all research Open Access.
@scribe@aliettejonkers@statsguy About 100%. As the party with the largest number of votes (by a huge margin, 50% higher than nr.2) they get the initiative to form a coalition. They need to fill at least 75 seats of 150, and they can do that with the rightwing VVD and new (mid to rightwing) party NSC. Both are already changing their previous 'no' to a 'maybe', so that willl happen. And they will probably add the farmer's party BBB as a 4th to have a large majority.
@abolisyonista Actually democracy allows for peaceful protests like this and the part of the protest that did not hinder traffic, which is unlawful and was therefore forbidden, was fine. Following the law is not repression. Also, democracy works fine without capitalism, so there is no problem getting rid of that, while keeping democracy. As flawed as it is, it is still the best we have - unless you can offer a better alternative, of course. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
@Gargron All sinks will look like this in the future. It prevents the wasteful practice of e.g. washing your face with the tap running. Save water. Don't cross the streams.
