@georgia@meowski Just noticed the page I cited also says this, though they don't put it in numbers:
> Male drivers are involved in significantly more fatal car accidents than women. Even when miles driven are taken into account, men have a higher likelihood of being behind the wheel in a fatal accident.
I think my maths should be correct though. Approximately anyway. A more precise analysis would probably calculate each year individually, and then average their results; rather than averaging the three different metrics individually over 10 years first (number of drivers, average miles driven, accident rate) because I think that way it might introduce inaccuracies if there were some very atypical years but that seems unlikely.
I'll look at the accident rates from 2013 to 2022 inclusive.
In 2022, there were just under 119 million licensed female drivers and just over 116 million licensed male drivers. (More women!) The difference was smaller in 2013 with 107 million vs. 105 million but still more female drivers.
Men drive about 13,356 miles per year. Women drive around 9,838 miles per year. Let's multiply that by 110 million for both sexes, being extra generous for your side of the argument by ignoring the fact that there's actually more female drivers. This gives us about 1,468 billion miles per year for all men together, and about 1,082 billion miles per year for all women together.
Sum of accidents 2013 to 2022 (10 years) is 56k for men, 15.5k for women. So on average 5.6k vs. 1.55k per year.
So, accident rate per billion miles driven for each sex:
Men: 3.815
Women: 1.433
Men are about 2.66 more likely to cause traffic accidents, using a very conservative estimate that's generous towards the male side (ignoring that there's more female drivers). Had I not been so generous it would probably be close to 3.
Men are about three times more likely to cause traffic accidents than women per miles driven.
@georgia A past coworker still lives rent free in my head because he was completely genuinely convinced of this.
Two days after we had an argument about it, the worst car accident in many years happened in Germany. Culprit was a middle aged man who did a risky manoeuvre on the Autobahn and ended up killing many people.
Oh and btw that coworker of mine also genuinely believed in chemtrails and got very angry whenever he saw contrails.
Unfortunately, I'm currently using Microblows Winshit and the only app that's supposed to be able to do it is "Phone Link" which, guess what, requires me to log in to a Microsoft account. What utter gobshite.
KDE Connect may perhaps possibly somehow be able to do it as well but I couldn't figure it out.
@matrix@kaia I don't like jumping to assumptions because some people look very androgynous. For example, this person is female. They identify as a transman but don't take T so they can continue to compete in the women's division. (I suppose there might be some intersex condition, but no idea. This person is not to be confused with Imane Khelif, who is almost certainly biologically male and was probably raised as a girl due to 5ARD.)
@hj@mangeurdenuage Come on, we all know this is just men projecting onto women. It's predominantly men who are sexual deviants and degenerates with sadistic and bestial fantasies. It's also men who pay to have bestiality porn produced and who buy and trade it on the darknet and whatnot.
@Suiseiseki The article is about two years old so I don't know if I should try to correct the historical details now. :blobcat-thinking:
And I don't want the history part to be that long since it isn't the main point of the article...
How did you come upon it, by the way? I've a feeling that pretty much nobody cares. If there's a place where such political issues in the free software movement are discussed openly, I'd love to be part of it. (Most places just kick or ban you, in my experience.)
I hate German bureaucracy so much. Should have just kept the old name, even though it was a ridiculous long name due to other stupid German laws. Had "non-profit" in the name but I guess I could have used it for for-profit purposes anyway without needing to change anything. UGH
I'm so mad at the nonsensical legal bullshit that requires me to pay for an expensive service for a trivial change and I'm also mad at myself for not having checked before how much it will cost.
@hakui I'm not gonna be doing anything illegal lol.
But there may be a legal loophole in the VAT law that will allow me to make the government pay all the VAT I would be paying, without needing to pay any VAT to the government from my own income, because all my company's income is from business outside the EU. :blobcat-thinksmart:
Not actually sure yet but ChatGPT is telling me it's legit.
This means that a lot of things I buy (anything I can actually justify as being a business expense, which as an IT guy includes PC components) will be literally 19% discounted which is insane.
I'm not actually serious, but god damn. Why is it so painfully difficult to simply get my own earnings from my own company without having the government taking FREAKING HALF OF THE MONEY.
I have to register my company as an employer and then have the company register me as an employee and then the company has to file MONTHLY wage tax declarations. WHY???
My health insurance and such also has to be paid by the company, as an "employer."
Why not just let me pay myself whenever I want (say quarterly or even yearly) through a simple bank transaction, let me pay my income tax privately from my own bank account whenever I transfer money to myself, and likewise for the health insurance...
I suppose an understandable justification might be that the government wants to ensure that cash is flowing regularly to them, rather than in the form of sudden spikes at the end of every quarter or at the end of the whole year.
Oh is she not tradcon like him? I know nothing about her. (Neither do I care. Unless she's a radical feminist in which case based. But I would already know if she was.)
