... the seven buildings on fire.

Latest casualty report I read, a few hours ago, had 55 dead, 70-something injured, most of the injured stable, and over 200 unaccounted for.

Preliminary cause is non-regulation materials as protective covers and the like during full wall renovation.

As some people have been checking in on me:

I'm safe from the fires, and anyone I know is fine. My home is 20 km or so away from the three buildings on fire.

Pretty fitting that a reporter would be named Olivia Newsie (spelled "Nuzzi").

There's a chat group at work named "IDE - VS Code".

There's a bunch of these for different IDEs, so there's "IDE - JetBrains" etc.

But it's difficult not to read it as "IDE versus Code".

I don't hate VS Code. I'm a greybeard who sits 98% in PuTTY+tmux+vim, but for the other 2% I find VS Code genuinely helpful.

So IDE versus Code is not something I feel on an ongoing basis, it's not a Freudian read, it's just how my brain parses the group name. 😊

    @mansr I am mentally a greybeard.

I happen to have a physical 1–2 mm here at the end of this week, but that's not what I meant. 😊

An email I wrote an hour ago had one subclause that was too passive-aggressive.

I think it was fair, but it was probably counterproductive.

I should have let it simmer in Drafts until Monday.

I was exposed to too much Process today.

Saying that it treats the dots like whitespace made me want to try something.

Are dots and whitespace trimmed the same? I tried renaming the folder to blabla space dot space dot space dot (`blabla . . .`).

It came out showing blabla space dot! Half-eaten! But when I entered the folder or refreshed the parent folder, the last space dot vanished.

Ok, we can end a folder name with dot dot dot underscore (`..._`) and Windows won't interfere with that.

    I'll take it.

I specified that if the generated folder name is too long, truncate it and end it with three dots.

During QA the dots were missing, so I thought the dev missed that requirement.

Turns out #Windows eats the dots, you can't even rename the folder manually -- any dots at the end are eaten, same with whitespace.

@gemlog It is part of the silly human condition to take the car to the treadmill. 😄

In their defense, I expect they would have had a booking they didn't want to be late for. 😊

I was coming down a long sequence of stairs during my lunch walk, and thought I heard some Scanian, south Swedish, voices. As I got closer, yup, that was definitely Swedish.

Person 1: Wow, those sure are some stairs.
    P2: I hope there's a lift somewhere ...
Me (also in Swedish): Hi guys, where are you going?
P1: Oh, hello, haha. Yeah, we're going to a badminton place, but it's up on that road and we saw these stairs and we figured we'd rather avoid them.
Me: Sure! Just head into that tower and take the lift to the 17th floor, you'll see the road right outside.
    P1: Thanks!
P2: Man, Swedish works everywhere, haha.

We spoke for another minute. Yes, I live here, yes, I know a bit of Cantonese, enjoy your stay.

Always fun to be able to provide some highly localized (Swedish) and localized (I know exactly where that road and that lift go) assistance. 😃

    Unwellcome

With the "Wellcome" supermarket colors and style.

Yes, it's spelled with two "L". It's the surname of an English family.
