@skinnylatte Hahaha, my first husband completely didn't believe me when I said Koreans are all like that to me and hence a reason I don't go to the dry cleaners (this was a while ago when we were first married and living in Chicago). Finally I decided only a live demo could convince him -- so we went to get a skirt hemmed. He looked shellshocked when the lady asked if I loved my mother ("why you live so far away?" must be that I don't love my mother, obvs) and reached his limit when she started criticizing my bangs. Never asked me to go to the dry cleaner again!

@skinnylatte That I don't know. This shelter is now specifically designated for families and I don't know what all that entails in Santa Clara County.

@skinnylatte All this is less true of newer shelters -- like in Sunnyvale there is one that is close to public transit, allows families to stay together and even keep their pets with them, and I believe although you can't drink or do drugs there they don't insist that you must be completely clean and sober -- but San Francisco's shelter system is a lot older and less centralized.

@skinnylatte The thing that I found interesting is that apparently not a one of these expert medical staffs except the last one (at the Seattle Children's ER) recognized symptoms of measles for like a week! It's just not something our doctors are used to worrying about.

@skinnylatte I am telling immigrant parents NOT to take their unvaccinated kids out of the country. ONE non-vaccinated infant who lives in the Seattle area contracted measles while overseas in what circumstantial evidence suggests was South or Southeast Asia -- and I'm virtually certain that this regime will ignore that 150 white Christian kids with measles in Texas, and focus on the one immigrant kid with measles in Seattle to keep ALL IMMIGRANTS out of at least subject them to quarantine. It's just not safe to take non-white kids out of the country -- and it's always unwise to take unvaccinated infants -- until we know what the penalties are.

@skinnylatte Hahaha it's so embarrassing! I can eat decently at almost any airport but the one that was my home airport for so long. SeaTac is pretty lame too, although I think they're at least trying to get better.

@skinnylatte The most disappointing airport foodwise has to be San José Mineta (aka Mineta San José). It's in the middle of one of the most diverse and little-known food areas in America, and they give the prime spot to a homophobic fried-chicken chain THAT DOES NOT EVEN OPEN ON SUNDAYS. I think their best restaurant is in fact a noodle-dispensing machine hidden in an alcove. I'm not sure I've ever found anything worth eating or drinking there except an Illy coffee.

@skinnylatte Yes, everyone who makes excuses for anti-trans bigotry needs to read the paranoid nonsense swirling around these people's heads.

@skinnylatte Did you sit around and say mean things about Italians? Because WE ALL KNOW that Italians are the true target of trans peoples' ire.

@skinnylatte Like... buttermilk biscuits? I'm not aware of any other common American pastry that uses it. I use buttermilk to marinate my fried chicken :)

In thinking about Gaza now, I've come to a few conclusions.
1) Most Americans don't seem to understand how FEW actual Palestinian Americans there are in this country -- only about 170k -- and they represent at least two separate waves of immigration. Quite a few are Christians whose families have been here since before 1967 -- Edward Said was among this group -- and many Palestinians have intermarried with other Arabs etc. The idea that American Arabs are going to stand as a single voting bloc

that can and should push Kamala Harris to stop the genocide seem pretty dubious to me. Interestingly enough, Chicagoland appears to have the largest single group of Palestinian Americans but I did not see them come out to protest in any numbers.
2) I see a lot of Gaza single-issue voters who seem to be more concerned with Israel not getting weapons FROM US than they really are about Israel not getting weapons. It is 100% certain to me that if we cut them off they will go to China.

already be a pretty moot point. We sent a CARRIER GROUP to the Red Sea to fight Houthi rebels with drones! Look what the Ukrainians have accomplished with their drones. The world of weaponry is in a period of MASSIVE ferment right now, but the trend is definitely smaller and cheaper. Israel has a massive advantage in software, but obvs they still want to buy US technology.
4) It's genuinely less clear to me than ever who is negotiating -- who is even CAPABLE of negotiating -- a ceasefire from

Luckily Russia's ability to make weapons seems to be at a low ebb, because that would be even worse. Realignment from US ally to Chinese would have VERY unpredictable consequences and is clearly the thing that Biden is trying to avoid.
3) The star of the current YC class is a startup that makes CHEAP CRUISE MISSILES. Instead of $3mm per missile, they will go for $300k each. In conjunction with the amount of warfighting that has already been converted to drone warfare, expensive US weapons may

the Palestinian side. Hamas had two leaders nominally speaking for Gaza, they assassinated one and the other is a fighter not a diplomat. A ceasefire, much less lasting peace, does not seem to me to be in the power of the POTUS to deliver at this time. I'd love to be wrong, but there you go.
