@tk Fortunately I'm aware of the DK effect and I've experienced it from those who truly believe their BS is fact. While I acknowledge my pseudointellectualism at times, I put it down to making guesses based on past experiences or related knowledge. These people just know how to build a business model around it.
@tk We're in an age of nepobabies inheriting the estates of those that came before them. They didn't earn it so they haven't an idea what it means to start from scratch. If a 1000 people are raised the same way, I doubt any of them become something special. With the push to believe we're rootless and aren't a product of our environment, my doubts are redoubled.
@tk I know Musk's belief on this and it's kind of cringe. He's in favour of a bigger population as there's a higher chance of notable people coming into being. Unfortunately he forgot the part where they only get to break glass ceilings if they're brought up with the opportunities to pursue it.
@nav Straightening teeth has some logic behind it, such as fixing crossbite or preventing misaligned teeth from causing pain. The idea is it saves on future costs of treating preventable conditions.
Piercing ears offers no such benefit, neither does straightening milk teeth (they'll fall out anyway and their replacements wouldn't inherit previous realignment efforts).
@nav Kids can't get tattoos but can somehow undergo gender reassignment surgery, but that's a different topic.
It's believed baby's ear lobes are soft enough to not register pain when they actually do. The problems start with causing the child unnecessary pain. The other problem is why the actor feels it's necessary to do.
