Do you think Republicans would pass a bill designed to state funds to feed hungry children that simultaneously *only funds initiatives in left-leaning cities* (mostly Chicago!) and *funnels millions in federal dollars to private tech companies for no explicitly stated reasons? Do you think they think that wails actual happen?
If the world is in fucking fire – literally – why else are they wasting a single person’s time on this? This is why people are tuning out. It’s transparent and nauseating.
I'm a member of the #LGBTQ community, and a staunch defender of my trans brothers and sisters. That said, this trend of asking everyone you encounter for their pronouns is fuckin stupid, as it ignores the fact that 90%+ of the population identifies with standard pronouns. It makes more sense for people with unusual pronouns to just speak up.
Part of what's going on is that regulators can't keep up with the rate at which our climate is changing and the degree to which it's leading to increased payouts.
They're trying to keep policies affordable for regular homeowners and business owners.
But what they're finding out is, sometimes they can't.
Increasingly, some properties are so at risk that the only alternative is the state-funded insurer of last resort.
“If you had to pick a canary-in-the-coal-mine industry to measure the extent to which climate change is real, I think insurance is probably the best one I can think of. The balance sheets—they’re not going to lie.”
Climate change is the fundamental driver behind insurers abandoning California, Florida and more than 200 zipcodes elsewhere in the U.S.
When you post on Twitter(1) or Bluesky(2) you grant them a broad perpetual license to use, modify, and sublicense your content. You effectively make them co-owners of your content. They can mine it and monetize it. They can even sell it. When you post on Mastodon(3) most instances take no license at all. That's right, they tell you what they are doing with your content—storing posts and delivering them—but no license.
I DIDN'T GET TO HAVE A REAL LAW SCHOOL GRADUATION! I EARNED GOLD CORDS AND I WANTED TO FUCKING WEAR THEM IN FRONT OF EVERYONE AND BE SEEN IN GRADUATION PHOTOS BY TOTAL STRANGERS FOR DECADES AS THE FANCIEST BITCH OF ALL! I WANTED TO SAY GOODBYE TO MY FRIENDS! I WANTED TO BE IMPRESSIVE!
I WANTED MY PARENTS TO BE THERE WHEN MY SON WAS BORN! I WANTED THEM TO HOLD HIM WHEN HE WAS STILL SQUISHED AND SMALL AND HAD NEVER KNOWN DARKNESS!!
I WISH MY UNCLE WHO I ONLY REALLY SAW AT WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS WAS STILL ALIVE!
I WISH I DIDN'T STOP EXERCISING AND START EATING INDULGENTLY 44 MONTHS AGO. I WANT THE ROUTINE AND THE BODY AND THE GOOD FEELINGS I USED TO HAVE!!
I WANTED TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE I COULD JUST GET A BABYSITTER SOMETIMES!!!
I WANT TO GO TO SHOWS. I WISH THE OPEN MIKE EAGLE SHOW I WAS PLANNING TO GO TO WASN'T CANCELLED IN MARCH 2020.
I'm tired of yelling.
I wish I could think better of my friends and neighbors, or take my kids into a grocery store and scold my son for misbehaving.
I wish I wasn't getting lied to all the time by the fourth estate.
I wish I wasn't so angry and scared and alone. I wish I needed this less.
If AI has to exist can someone make an app for my phone that can let me talk through a script outline while I take a walk and keep an outline? I might talk in circles or change the order of ideas or need annotations and I want something that can handle that kind of complexity. Like an AI writers assistant. Is that possible?
@ryanhoulihan Depends on their role in politics. Why shouldn't people dying of old age have representation in our representative democracy? But just like we expect people to retire from an active role in society, they probably should do the same in politics.
