TIL that some Mastodon servers require authentication even to get a public post by API.
Oh well, more error checking code it is, then :)

@frelsisbaratta That’s very kind of you; thank you, will do :)
💕
@matty No, it’s a curated stream of Mastodon posts. You add links to posts and it streams them in a loop. So you can consume it when making a WebSocket demo or just get the public timeline for a HTTP call/JSON demo. Useful when teaching web dev, for example.
But what you describe wouldn’t be difficult to build with Kitten (https://kitten.small-web.org/).
(Streamiverse is built with Kitten and is very simple.)
Coming soon… Streamiverse.
A curated streaming fediverse post API compatible with the Mastodon API for use in teaching, demos, presenting, etc. Basically, if you were using the Mastodon public timeline API for these use cases before it started to require authentication, this will be a good alternative :)
If you have suggestions for the curated feed, reply to this with links to posts.

@harald Hey Harald, thanks so much. It’s really more the time I’m going to have to spend more than anything else. I think we’re ok for now, but appreciate the offer :)
@frelsisbaratta Thanks so much, appreciate it. But it’s really more the time than anything else. I’ll definitely keep your kind offer in mind but we should be fine for the time being :)
Aww, the latest Kitten release (a few moments ago) is a Scorpio, just like me :)

@realtegan @ionica @bsky.brid.gy Don’t worry, by the time BlueSky goes bad Billionaire Y will have started FartTrumpet and everyone will move to that instead.
@aiefel Perhaps. But it all takes time away from taking Kitten, Domain, and Place over the finishing line and have the Small Web start to exist.
I have to say, I do so enjoy having to count pennies while trying to work on tech for good while fucking billionaires have money to burn to fuck things up.
It’s. So. Much. Fun.
As Open Technology Fund money for Eclips.is by Greenhost has dried up, it looks like I’m going to have the fun task of migrating sites away and/or closing some of our sites to avoid an additional ~€200/month hosting bill come January.
Some are sites that I was keeping for archival purposes, like https://better.fyi and https://ind.ie. Others are activism sites like https://clean-up-the-web.org…
PS. If you want to support us financially, please do:
@hans Not really. I’m really not excited by cryptocurrencies. The only reason I implemented the option on the funding page is to show that we’re not opposed to the idea of a digital currency as long as it doesn’t destroy the planet in the process. But I also can’t get excited about it or about money in general. (Which likely explains why we have so little of it.) :)
@ricmac @GhostOnTheHalfShell Don’t hold your breath, they’re partners, you see…

@angietaylor Indeed. And ditto :)
@ozof @Lana It was on Reddit from two days ago. Just checked and it looks like the post has now been removed so you’re likely right.
@ozof @Lana I did actually look it up and it was an employee reporting it. That said, sure, as sick and tired of douchbag CEOs acting like douchebag CEOs as I am, this isn’t the hill I wish to die on.
@scrum @hardisk Nah, pretty sure he’s human. Would’ve been better if it turned out to be AI.
