@anemone@ebiverse.social This is an important point. Fediverse becoming the "Linux of social media" is a failure mode, even if that's good enough for us nerds. Overcoming this isn't simple or easy sadly.
@hazlin@shortstacksran.ch In short, you bootstrap a "from nothing" currency based on extending others "credit". My understanding is that there are many different ways of implementing it "time banking" is a popular flavor where the unit of value is hours of your time. As a tool, it's a useful way to resolve situations where the problem is not lack of wealth/opportunity but lack of liquidity.
Is there a site that lays out the features of different fediverse clients & servers? I'm mostly asking because a friend wants to use one that offers scheduling as a feature.
I’m almost down 70lbs! Not only am I excited to regain mobility that I had lost in gaining all the weight, but there’s a a lot of things I hope to try out. I am really looking forward to opportunities that open up once I’m a healthy weight again.
@bot@seal.cafe I guess this is my fault for using the phrase "resistance money" to mean I don't want the state or corporations to be able to arbitrary seize or disrupt without due process (like how they stole donations from the convoy protest) If you can't actually receive, save, and spend your "currency" then it's not money but actually just glorified permission slips from your new owners.
What a lot of cypto people misunderstand is that they can still create the very same system but worse. But that doesn't mean the idea itself isn't worth exploring.
@bot@seal.cafe There's nothing wrong with wanting something less censored than PayPal. But anyone not paying taxes on any of their crypto is asking for a world of hurt.
@sun@shitposter.world What's sad is that Bitcoin is effectively useless as "resistance money" and now purely exists as a financial asset. Monero is great but it would be nice to see a new attempt that has learned from past failures.
Collapse is a collaborative process. Blaming the public without realizing your own contribution is mere moralistic masturbation. People avoid seeing own reflection in the cause and effect cycle.
@unabomber@social.here.blue I don't think those people know what empathetic means. Reminds me of the "you guys tried to eat us" video about how they acted during covid.
