@noondlyt That was the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. "Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield recently decided to "no longer pay for anesthesia care if the surgery or procedure goes beyond an arbitrary time limit, regardless of how long the surgical procedure takes"
Greedy feck'n bastards. If that UnitedHealth ceo shooting ends up being over coverage, esp if patient died, it's going to be another "Run Bambi Run" event only with a more honorable or understanding crime.
Donald Trump, on Fox and Friends, 2014: “When the economy crashes, when the country goes to total hell and everything is a disaster, then you’ll have riots to go back to where we used to be when we were great.” #USpol 📽️ https://video.foxnews.com/v/3179604851001
A graphic I made years ago for Twitter, updated post insurrection. Donald Trump, on Fox and Friends, 2014: “When the economy crashes, when the country goes to total hell and everything is a disaster, then you’ll have riots to go back to where we used to be when we were great.”
I think I am going to write a good ole country music song about having two remote Linux terminal windows open, from two different servers and the tragedy that can ensue if you accidentally confuse the terminals and do Server A tasks in Server B's terminal.
The only problem is, I'm not sure how I am going to get the midnight train, the dog or mother a mention in the song. Those are required, I think, to be authentic country music. I can, of course, blame it on working with a broken heart while drinking beer but the train, dog and momma has me stuck.
Seems like a Fediverse ad model is developing. I'm ok with that but there needs to be a general purpose, filterable, marketing/advertising hashtag
I don't mind people posting affiliate and commission links, like to Amazon or wherever using their revenue generating link, with commentary on a product or sale item, but I wished they would use some kind of general-purpose marketing or advertising hashtag so those could be filtered to a list and stay out of my timeline.
Several popular accounts are doing it now, inserting these kinds of posts throughout a stream of posts.
I know ppl need to make money and some of the ad posts have sparked my interest but even @Mastodon is hawking its novelty merchandise without one #IFTAS
This model has worked well with RSS feeds. I really don't mind it but they should be tagged. #MastoAdmin
I think we are going to be tested over this holiday season with this practice and instance owners and moderators need to setup some boundaries other than NO ADS and enforcing a general purpose marketing tag would put the power back in users hands what they see. #Fediverse
For people that used the Bridgy Fed Bluesky bridge, it got blocked 4 days ago., after BlueSky pulls the relay plug while they work on their fediverse to Bluesky systems.
"Daft-Freak you mean fediverse => Bluesky? They're doing a lot of work on their relay, bluesky-social/atproto#3036 , and they've temporarily paused ingesting commits from federated PDSes like Bridgy Fed. I don't have an ETA for when that will be lifted, sadly." https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/1520#issuecomment-2492534380
My main desktop is a Linux setup but for somethings, due to accessibility peripherals, I have to use Windows 10. 80% of my time I am on Linux, 20% Windows 10.
Windows 10 just did a full screen ad for Windows 11.
It totally disregarded my accessibility peripherals and froze them up.
I was only able to escape it by crashing the underlying app running it.
The window was called "Campaign manager," crashing it crashed Windows Update. Windows already knows my computer doesn't meet the min req. It was pushing me to buy a new computer.
I mentioned the other day, this desktop is over a decade old and beyond its prime. I will have to figure something out for the other 20% but this box and Windows 10, is my last Windows computer.
I was able to hit the Windows key to break free but it would take back over after released.
It's worth reminding people, some inkjet printers can embed "hidden pixels" or tracking dots on printed pages, often referred to as "printer tracking dots" or "machine identification codes (MIC)," which can identify the specific printer used to print a document, as we enter a new phase of America, and the challenges we will be facing, according to the words of the incoming Trifecta GOP far right government, plus Supreme Court, and the challenge to free speech. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printer_tracking_dots
Because of a bullish day in the stock market, #ElonMusk's net worth increased $13 billion in one day, partly due to his connection with Trump.
Some news organizations are saying it is now up $26 billion since election day. That much in just a few days.
It's just a reminder that the original word fascism, as coined by Mussolini was the merging of corporations and government (Corporatism) and total authority over its citizens. #USPol It will lead to corruption like never seen in the US.
This is coming from me. I have complained before. I'm a diehard Democrat. The corporate entity that is the DNC needs to be disbanded and us Democratics needs to reorganize from the ground up in some kind of different facet.
For too many decades, the DNC machine has failed its members. The emphasis needs to be local then regional then state then national with each level having limited responsibilities and limited choices when directing the path with the local taking the most active lead.
There are too many dead zones not getting attention that reach voters.
A billion-dollar operation and it failed yet again. Meanwhile, I had to download my sample ballot and research the people, esp the down ballot issues and seats with no party designation because like so many counties in America, there isn't a robust local Democratic party representation in my county or voter outreach outside the horse and pony races. Even then, low informed voters made "is Biden running" or "Why isn't Biden on my ballot" type Google searches trend ON ELECTION DAY
Hugh Hewitt leaves WAPO Livestream, takes his binkie pacifier and rattle, and quits the Washington Post.
“I don’t appreciate being lectured about reporting when, Hugh, many times you come here saying lots of things that aren’t based in fact,” Jonathan Capehart said
“I won’t come back, Jonathan, I’m done,” Hewitt shot back, removing his ear piece and walking off screen. “This is the most unfair election ad I have ever been a part of.” #USPol
Federal judge allows proof of citizenship requirement for naturalized Ohioans challenged at polls
"We urge naturalized citizens to look at their license [photo ID]. If it still bears a “noncitizen” notation, bring your naturalization papers or U.S. Passport if you plan to cast a ballot in person, in case you are challenged. — ACLU of #Ohio" #USPol
I have heard so much lately that, 'if you didn't have sex you wouldn't get pregnant' from the religious right lately that it is time to pull this meme out. #USPol
@thanius I'm doing those types of tasks, also. I just vacuumed my database. Being self-hosted, I use several relays and it gets big with garbage that should be cleaned out and for whatever reason, autovacuum is not keeping up and I'm not too keen to tweak it right now. Reduced my database by 10GB
@dansup I don't record videos, even small ones, often, but I am getting pure pleasure watching you develop loops. I wish you great success. I used to do some vines, so, who knows what is in store. You may get my ugly mug in the fediverse, at least in short form, in the near future when it gets released.
@lovelylovely Somebody tell this fool that since 1851, when HURDAT data started being collected, Atlantic hurricane season has been from June 1 and through November 30.
2/ to be clear, I'm not attacking people that live in coastal areas. Just making an observation that things are getting worse and the middle class and poor in these areas are the ones going to hurt the most as they don't have the resources needs to protect themselves. Florida just allowed 600k insurance policies leave the 'insurance of last resort' & pushed them into the marketplace.
I actually have empathy for these people and dread the next decade of storms If the pattern sticks
